The Walking Dead Finale Had a Major Flaw That Holds It Back From Being Truly Iconic… 😬
The latest Walking Dead finale left us speechless, but there’s one critical mistake that prevents it from reaching the status of an all-time great.
Could this error have completely changed the finale’s impact? Fans are still debating…

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 had plenty to admire, and its finale wrapped things up nicely, but there’s one oversight that is impossible to ignore. After eight episodes, the spinoff’s second season came to a close and continued to expand upon Maggie and Negan’s story. The two faced different obstacles throughout their journeys and briefly reignited their feud, but they eventually put their differences aside during Dead City season 2’s ending, setting up an interesting future. While there is no official confirmation that the show will return, the closing sequence suggested it still has more to offer.
“If History Were a Conflagration” provided a heartbreaking payoff to Ginny and Negan’s story while giving Bruegel a perfect death in The Walking Dead spinoff, capping off these storylines in a satisfying fashion. In the process, it intentionally left the door open for another chapter, which seems to be the plan for Dead City, but there was one detail about the finale that bothered me. Although the episode was filled with tense moments and thrilling action, it lacked one key ingredient to make it a truly complete finale, which subsequently makes the rumored third season even more intriguing.
The Walking Dead: Dead City’s Season 2 Finale Was A Strong Ending
Season 2 Provided An Entertaining Conclusion That Moved The Story Forward

Despite not every storyline being finished off, Dead City season 2’s finale offered a solid ending that was full of entertaining moments. The Dama’s return didn’t quite provide the full explanation behind her survival, but it did at least produce an interesting interaction with Maggie. Additionally, Maggie promised Hershel that she’d kill Negan only to change her mind, which further complicates the relationship with her son, who looks destined to continue heading down a villainous path. Negan’s role in the finale was also compelling, as his fight with Bruegel’s men inside the Burazi church was one of the episode’s highlights.
Furthermore, it was great to see Negan’s evil side fully return in The Walking Dead when he murdered Bruegel, with his hunt for Perlie reminding the audience just how intimidating he is. Maggie witnessing these events and still managing to show Negan mercy confirms just how much her character has grown, and it may have even marked the end of their feud now that Negan has seen the error of his ways. As a result, season 2’s conclusion had almost everything I could’ve hoped for, but it was missing a few key characters that would’ve made the finale even better.
Dead City Season 2’s Finale Had Some Major Character Absences
Huge Characters Like The Croat & Annie Were Completely Missing During The Final Episode

With New Babylon taking over Manhattan, it felt like Charlie Byrd would appear, yet she has been MIA since the first few episodes.
Considering he was season 1’s main villain, it seems very unlikely that his journey is over, making it a surprise he didn’t feature at all. Similarly, with New Babylon taking over Manhattan, it felt like Charlie Byrd would appear, yet she has been MIA since the first few episodes. Even more frustratingly, after Annie and Joshua returned through hallucinations in Dead City, I was confident they would also be given a cameo in the finale, yet they were kept away, suggesting their reunion with Negan would be postponed until season 3.
Overall, these major omissions felt strange and made it clear that, despite having a strong ending, Dead City season 2 was never supposed to conclude the spinoff, but this could actually be a good thing in the long run.
Dead City’s Big Character Omissions Make Season 3 Even Bigger
The Spinoff Already Has Several Big Returns On The Cards That Can Make The Action More Exciting

The Walking Dead: Dead City‘s entire second season is available to stream on AMC+.
While it would be great to see a side story of him trying to escape the island, having him return to save one of the central characters could make him feel even more important. Dead City has already teased several season 3 stories, but Negan’s reunion with Annie and Joshua feels the most crucial. He risked falling back into his old ways to keep them safe, and losing Ginny will make Negan increasingly desperate to see his wife and son, emphasizing just how much potential Dead City season 3 has thanks to its impending character returns.
