Modders Get Creative: Early Assassin’s Creed Shadows Mods Are Transforming It Into a Ghost of Tsushima Lookalike! ⚔️🏯✨

Assassin's Creed Ghost of Tsushima Comparison

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched this week, and some players have already started modding it to suit their preferences, with one early mod reshades the game in an attempt to make it look like another game depicting historical Japan, Ghost of Tsushima. And it isn’t the only early mod available for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is already gaining a large playerbase.

On Nexus Mods (via VG247), modder furqanowosho created the “Assassin’s Creed Shadows High Graphical Fidelity Ghost of Tsushima Reshade.” According to the mod’s description, it aims to fix the “dull greyness” of the vanilla game by introducing a color style more reminiscent of Ghost of Tsushima. The mod does a serviceable job of matching Tsushima’s color tones, adding a deeper contrast that mimics the palette of Sucker Punch’s open-world action game. However, it arguably still needs a bit more work to fully capture the beauty and essence of Ghost of Tsushima within Shadows.

Players Can’t Help But Compare Assassin’s Creed Shadows To Other Feudal Japan Media

Not All Historical Japans Are The Same

It seems that when players hear “feudal Japan,” they instantly draw comparisons to other popular media set in the same era. In addition to the Ghost of Tsushima reshade for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, another mod appears to give the game a look inspired by the popular Hulu series Shōgun. The “SHOGUN – Cinematic ReShade” mod, created by Nexus Mods user 5vle, follows a similar approach to the Tsushima mod, but with a more cinematic focus similar to the Hulu series.

According to the mod’s description, it “enhances” Shadows by giving it a more “refined, cinematic look.” It improves lighting, shadows, and color grading while also removing the “washed-out appearance” of the base game. This mod seems geared towards players who want to add a more dramatic, cinematic tone to their experience, complete with optional black bar letterboxing.

These mods are a fun way to shake up your Assassin’s Creed Shadows gameplay, especially if you, like apparently many others, are dissatisfied with the base game’s coloring. Or, maybe you’re just eagerly awaiting the Ghost of Tsushima sequel and need to enjoy those lush visuals one more time. Regardless, if you feel the game is missing something or want to do something a different way, there will likely be a mod for that soon.

Our Take: The Assassin’s Creed Shadows Mod Scene Is Nascent But Has Potential

These Things Take Time… And Skill

With Assassin’s Creed Shadows still a fresh release, the mod scene for the open-world RPG is still in its early stages. However, the mods that have been created so far show a lot of potential. For those who are not into the Shōgun or Ghost of Tsushima visuals, there are simpler mods like RabbitDoesStuff’s “Rabbit’s Real Shadows Reshade” and crubino’s “Simple Realistic for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” These mods make subtle improvements to the game’s visuals.

Other mods gaining traction include X35129’s “Remove Silly Things”, which declutters the UI. There are also several mods that shorten the game’s intro, catering to the more impatient players. No matter how you choose to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows, if you’re into a historical fiction Japan aesthetic, you’ll likely have a bloody good time.
