With Tencent’s backing, Ubisoft is focusing on franchises such as Ghost of Recon, and The Division. However, what will happen with this one legendary series?

Let’s be honest here, Ubisoft hasn’t been having the best of times. In particular, 2024 proved to be a nightmare for the French publisher as its crown titles, such as Star Wars Outlaws, XDefiant, and Skull and Bones, failed to make a mark. While the highly controversial Assassin’s Creed Shadows has received positive reviews, the company is formulating new plans.
It’s been revealed that Ubisoft has established a brand-new subsidiary that will take over the licenses for the studio’s classic games such as Ghost Recon, Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and Rainbow Six Siege. Tencent has backed this new venture with a 25% stake by the end of this year.

While it’s great to see that the French publisher wants to elevate its popular franchises, it’s still a shame that it won’t give the same treatment to a forgotten gem.
Will Ubisoft ever bring back this legendary franchise?

While we can rant all day about Ubisoft’s current state and the lack of innovation, it’s crucial not to forget that this publisher is responsible for giving us the greatest games of all time. It’s high points are purely astronomical, and one of them was the Prince of Persia.
Initially crafted by Jordan Mechner and Broderbund, Prince of Persia was taken over by Ubisoft in 2001. During the early 2000s, the franchise enjoyed huge popularity, with the Sands of Time trilogy being considered the absolute peak of gaming.
Unfortunately, by the 2010s, the hype around the franchise has died down. The French publisher tried to revive the series with the visually breathtaking Prince of Persia (2008) and then The Forgotten Sands (2010). However, neither of these titles managed to gain the momentum. With this, Ubisoft diverted its resources toward the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
The French publisher once again tried its luck and announced a Sands of Time remake. The project had been delayed and rebooted a number of times and is now expected to be released in 2026. Last year, we also got Prince of Persia: The Rogue Prince and The Lost Crown. Sure, these games were incredible, but that didn’t convince Ubisoft.
Due to the low sales numbers, the French publisher decided to disband the development team behind The Lost Crown. It was quite disheartening to see that developers behind such a fantastic game were forced to leave the franchise and focus on other projects.
It’s still unclear what the future of the Prince of Persia will be once The Sands of Time Remake hits the shelves next year. Let’s hope Ubisoft will consider giving the franchise another shot and not abandon it.
Ubisoft has rebooted Far Cry 7 multiplayer

As reported by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft has decided to reboot the next Far Cry extraction shooter, which is codenamed Project Maverick. Sources suggest that the game needed a reboot, as there were some glaring issues.
Reports suggest that the final step that led to the game’s current state was its main team, Talisker, being redirected to Project Blackbird, which is the main Far Cry 7 project.
Initially, Project Maverick was supposed to be a part of the Far Cry 7 and give gamers an opportunity to survive in the wilderness of Alaska. Players were supposed to fight off against each other as well as AI-controlled soldiers and animals.
Clearly, this component of Far Cry 7 was too ambitious and had much more to offer. So, Ubisoft decided to give it a full-fledged team and make it a separate project in 2023. However, all the work on the project has been reset after an internal review.
As of now, Ubisoft Montreal and Sherbrooke have been tasked with revamping this title, and a few other developers from Ubisoft Berlin have been assigned to Blackbird. The future of the game is still not clear, but Ubisoft believes that Far Cry 7 will be out in 2026.
With that said, does Ubisoft need to revive the Prince of Persia series? Let us know in the comments below.
