Superman Teaser: James Gunn May Have Already Spoiled a Major Death in David Corenswet’s DCU Debut

Superman’s first teaser possibly gives audiences a glimpse of a tragic death among the Man of Steel’s cohorts.

Well, the gang’s all here.

James Gunn’s Superman released a teaser that dove headfirst into the mythology of the Man of Steel, showcasing Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Krypto the Superdog, and even Pa Kent in the short time that it had. However, there is one other character that the teaser might have revealed in the most spoiler-y way possible, which is a mainstay of Superman’s more recent media incarnations.

The teaser has shown the DCU’s hand when it comes to the vibe and style that James Gunn is aiming for, and the trailer is not as hunky-dory as fans have expected it to be. Among the imagery that people were privy to, there was one scene where Superman is seen gently cradling a robot, and it might just be the hinting at the introduction of Kelex, Superman’s Kryptonian robot at the Fortress of Solitude.

Kelex, if introduced, could already be dead by the time Superman wraps up

The robot’s identity remains a secret, but given how extensively Superman’s Kryptonian heritage factored into the opening seconds of the teaser, the film would be remiss to not have Kelex feature in Superman’s maiden adventure in the DCU. The character often serves as a caretaker for the Fortress of Solitude, being a former servant of Jor-El.

However, if the robot is Kelex, Superman‘s teaser introduced him in the most spoiler-filled way possible, as we see Superman cradling its body, which could hint at him dying for good. We know that there will be characters in the film that can manipulate or work with tech, like Lex Luthor and The Engineer, so there is no knowing who the robot actually is. However, there has been an instance where Lex Luthor destroyed Kelex before the robot was rebuilt to battle Brainiac 13.

All the information that has been revealed about Superman has not pointed towards Kelex being a part of the film. There has been no rumored casting or any other sort of indication that the character would make an appearance in Superman.

Superman‘s teaser paints a very grim picture of the Man of Steel

From falling from the sky beaten and bloody to having a beer can thrown at him by an angry crowd, Superman paints a very edgy picture of the world of the Man of Steel, a character that is otherwise looked up to by the common folk.

However, the trailer already points towards Superman & Lois might have been pulled after all, given that there are plenty of Superman and Lois shots in the teaser, with Lois kissing both Superman and Clark, possibly knowing that Kent is indeed Superman.

The teaser leaves a lot to the imagination, and that will probably be much appreciated by fans of the character. Superman‘s teaser has already got the DCU to come out swinging, and it remains to be seen whether James Gunn‘s vision for the character and the wider franchise can get people to go to the theatres

Superman hits theatres on July 11, 2025.
