It was a musical Wednesday in Malacañang for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who were serenaded by Sofronio Vasquez III, the first Filipino and Asian to be the grand winner of “The Voice US.”
Vasquez paid a courtesy call to the First Couple in the Palace on Wednesday afternoon, during which the Marcoses profusely expressed their admiration for their golden-voiced guest.
Wearing a barong, Vasquez performed one of the President’s favorite songs, John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and “A Million Dreams,” which won him the top prize at “The Voice US.”
The President said Vasquez’ victory at “The Voice US” is no small feat and that he made the Philippines and Filipinos very proud.
Marcos joked that he thought abut declaring the day that Vasquez won the singing tilt as as a holiday in the country.
During his conversation with the First Couple, Vasquez recalled his humble beginnings as a singer on cruise ships until he found his niche in the U.S. music scene.
His family was also with him during his courtesy call at the Palace.
