Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have a ‘savage exchange’ over bridesmaid dresses

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton reportedly had a tense text exchange over the bridesmaid dresses ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in 2018.

Kate Middleton Tilts Blame For William & Harry Rift To Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton experienced a rift before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding, with various allegations surfacing after the dispute became public.

Prince Harry shared his version of events in his bestselling memoir, Spare. Tabloid reports hinted that Meghan supposedly made Kate cry over an argument about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress prior to the Sussexes’ wedding. However, during their groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey in early 2021, Meghan stated that “the reverse happened”, implying it was actually Kate who made her cry before the wedding. In Spare, Harry detailed that Kate reached out to Meghan four days before the wedding to express that the dresses needed to be remade. He noted that Meghan couldn’t immediately respond to Kate’s text due to the multitude of wedding-related texts and the “chaos” surrounding her father, Thomas Markle, who had to undergo heart surgery before the big day.

According to Harry, Kate complained that Charlotte’s dress was “too big, too long, too baggy” and that Charlotte “cried when she tried it on [at] home”.

Meghan reportedly had a disagreement with Kate over the bridesmaid dresses, as disclosed in Prince Harry’s memoir. Meghan is alleged to have insisted that Princess Charlotte’s dress could be adjusted by the tailor, Ajay Mirpui, who was on standby at Kensington Palace, The Mirror reported.

She texted Kate: “Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing? ” Kate’s supposed response was: “No, all the dresses need to be remade.”

The Duke stated:”So the next morning she (Meghan) texted Kate that our tailor was standing by. That wasn’t sufficient.”

When Meghan asked if Kate understood the stress she was under due to her father’s situation, Kate acknowledged she did, but pointed out the wedding was only four days away.

Meghan’s alleged comeback was: “Yes, Kate, I know.”

She then encouraged Kate to visit the tailor, saying: “I’m not sure what else to say. If the dress doesn’t fit then please take Charlotte to see Ajay. He’s been waiting all day”. Kate’s reported reply was a simple: “Fine.”

The Duke of Sussex describes coming home to find Meghan upset and even “sobbing on the floor”.

Later, Kate extended an olive branch with flowers and an apology card for the supposed misunderstanding. Harry reflects on the high tensions, noting: “Emotions were running high, of course, after the stress of the last week, the last month, the last day. It was intolerable – but temporary. Kate hadn’t meant any harm, I told her.”

Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace are keeping mum on the bombshell claims tossed by the Sussexes in Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’, their explosive interviews, and the much-talked-about Netflix docu-series ‘Harry & Meghan’. Tailor Mr Mirpui opened up to the Daily Mail, admitting that he feels for everyone caught up in the drama—knowing too well how stressful dealing with children’s misfit wedding attire can be.

He shared that weddings are inherently stressful events, “especially one” with such significance. The tailor mentioned, “I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren’t fitting – it’s nerve-wracking.”
