Who Won 'The Voice'? All About Season 26 Champion Sofronio Vasquez

A few weeks after winning “The Voice USA Season 26” last December, our very own Sofronio Vasquez III had his highly anticipated homecoming on “It’s Showtime”—where it all started for him—on Monday, January 6.

Along with “Tawag ng Tanghalan” hurados Darren Espanto, Nyoy Volante, Yeng Constantino, and Klarisse de Guzman, as well as fellow alumni JM Yosures, Reiven Umali, JM Dela Cerna, Marielle Montellano, Lyka Estrella, and Rea Gen Villareal, who were actually also his proteges during his stint as a vocal coach, Sofronio showcased his powerful vocals by performing a medley of songs.

While we’re already aware of how a great singer he is through his participation in different competitions and his other live performances, there are actually more interesting things to know about our world-class champ. And he enthusiastically divulged 10 of those in this episode of “Atin A10 Lang.”

Aside from his talent, passion, and the inspiration that he got from his loved ones, Sofronio’s confidence in every performance apparently stems from his strong faith in God. And he displays it by usually doing the sign of the cross before he gets on the stage, just like what he did before appearing in front of the madlang people during his most recent guesting on “It’s Showtime.”

Utica resident Sophronio Vasquez, of the Philippines, won 'The Voice'

It seems that those weren’t only his secret weapons in succeeding in the competition, as he confessed about having a “lucky charm.” According to him, he only used one pair of underwear throughout his “The Voice” stint, which he just washed in the hotel after every use.

He may be excellent when it comes to utilizing his voice, but Sofronio revealed that his biggest frustration is playing other musical instruments since he doesn’t know how to play any.

Apart from being a great singer, did you know that he also takes pride in being a fur parent, a good chef at home, and a dental assistant? Sofronio imparted that he actually has many dogs, which include two French bulldogs and one standard poodle. He also loves to cook, which makes us wonder if kare-kare is his specialty since he regards it as his favorite food.

Prior to joining “The Voice,” he was actually among the overseas Filipino workers who ventured to the United States in pursuit of better opportunities. He initially worked as a cruise ship singer in Carnival Cruises before becoming a dental assistant based in Utica, New York.

Although singers like him are discouraged from consuming sweets since those may affect the quality of their voice, he enthused about how he always loves eating chocolates.

And lastly, more than his talent, Sofronio is actually admired for his being warm and down-to-earth. He conveyed how he is a fan of almost everyone; that’s why he knows most of the people around him.
