GTA VI isn’t set to land until later this year, but I have something that may keep you occupied in the meantime.
Grand Theft Auto doesn’t always take itself seriously, but this recommendation is perhaps a slightly sillier take on the franchise’s formula.
Developer TVGS’ Schedule I is an open world action simulation game available on Steam that’ll see you “take the first steps from small-time dope pusher to kingpin”.
“You’re a small-time drug dealer in a fresh town with no cash, no product and no connections. Build your drug empire from the ground up in the grungy west-coast city of Hyland Point,” the synopsis reads.
“Contend against intensifying law enforcement and deadly cartel competitors to expand your empire and reach the peak of the underworld.”
As you can see from the trailer, Schedule I doesn’t share GTA’s aesthetic realism, but it will still have you getting involved in all kinds of nefarious deeds.
You’ll want to satisfy each of your customers, creating unique drug recipes, delivering your products via skateboarding, driving, or walking through Hyland Point.
Eventually, you can hire dealers and employees to expand your empire and create a distribution chain.
Occasionally, things will go awry so you may find yourself fighting off against cartel competitors or even law enforcement.
And best of all, Schedule I can be enjoyed alone or with friends via co-op.
It isn’t due to launch in full until 24 March, but that’s not all that far away.
Even still, you can entertain yourself in the meantime by accessing the game’s free demo, Schedule I: Free Sample.
This should introduce you to the game’s mechanics – and it’s already got overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.
One happy reviewer claims to have spent as long as seven hours enjoying what the demo has to offer.
