The first trailer for ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ was released today, and it’s certainly intriguing. The trailer introduces the main cast in what appears to be a retro-futuristic alternate reality set in the 1960s.
Every detail reflects this setting—their surroundings, fashion, and numerous subtle hints scattered throughout the trailer and even in the marketing materials. While the movie’s plot remains largely under wraps, leaks, and rumors have given us a good idea of what to expect.
Allegedly, Galactus sets his sights on their Earth and reality due to something connected to a young Franklin Richards. As a result, the Fantastic Four are forced to flee, eventually finding themselves on Earth-616—the primary universe of the MCU.

How Marvel’s first family will cross over to a different reality remains to be seen but if you’re familiar with Reed Richards (Pascal) from the comics, you are likely aware that it’s going to be a result of his efforts as he is one of the smartest characters in Marvel Comics overall.
The trailer has given us a hint that he is researching Einstein-Rosen bridge or, wormholes.

Scientists in general think wormholes might exist because they are allowed by Einstein’s theory of general relativity, which describes how space and time bend around massive objects. The math behind black holes and gravity suggests that such “shortcuts” through space, could be possible.
While we haven’t found one yet, some scientists believe they might exist in extreme space conditions or could be created with the right exotic materials, but “evidence” to support this is thin as best.
Wormholes are one of the most commonly used explanations for interstellar travel, time travel, and similar sci-fi phenomena, they are also (so far) humanity’s only chance at mastering the huge vastness of space in a reasonable timespan, considering we can artificially create such a bridge or at best, control the one we accidentally happen upon.
So, it makes sense for Reed to explore this concept if he is interested in leaving his native reality, believe it or not under special circumstances, wormholes can connect two separate realities but in that case, we’re talking about interuniversal travel.
Some scientists think that if multiple universes or different realities exist, a wormhole could act as a bridge between them. If this were possible, traveling through a wormhole might not just take you to another place but also to a completely different version of reality with different rules or history.
In fact, wormholes taking you to a completely different reality is one of the “solutions” to a paradox created by time traveling. If something goes back in time through a wormhole, it doesn’t return to its original universe but instead enters a parallel one.
With their reality in danger and limited options at their disposal, it’s easy to see why Reed Richards would start looking into that phenomenon, or perhaps he somehow managed to contact Earth-616 even before they were forced to flee?
In truth, we don’t really need mathematical equations and exotic matter to utilize interuniversal travel in the MCU. Remember the ending of ‘The Marvels’ and Monica Rambeau? Rambeau ended up in a completely different reality by interacting with the Rift which appeared as a product of Dar-Benn using Quantum Bands. She seemingly ended up in the same reality we’ve seen in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’
We know that America Chavez can cross over to different realities as well, but I highly doubt the Fantastic Four will have her at their disposal.
