Marvel Rivals is already going through a lot of issues, even in Season 2.5. Between facing optimization issues, daily toxicity, and dealing with egoistic smurfs, players are having a hard time playing competitive matches. And now, a recent Reddit post showcased another glaring issue thatâs been driving most of them crazy.
NetEase hasnât really addressed this issue until now, but the Reddit video surfaced on everyoneâs feed is driving them crazy. Which you mightâve thought was your skill issue, or ranted on your own about how that was not a headshot? You should realize by now that itâs not always your fault; the servers are quite broken. Can the company do something to fix it?
The hitboxes are still broken in Marvel Rivals

This has been an issue for most Hero Shooters, where players complain about the broken hitboxes, and Marvel Rivals is also not an exception. Characters like Hela, Black Widow, and Moon Knight have been the prime victims, missing the obvious headshots on their opponents during intense teamfights.
Now, imagine a scene where youâre having the match of your life, but youâre missing obvious shots on your opponentâs DPS that lead to a loss. Youâll be furious for obvious reasons. Even though it could be a hitbox issue, your friends might blame you for not winning the fight at that crucial point in time.
After a bit of digging, u/Ben10Stan3 posted a video of them playing as Moon Knight in practice range with the default crosshair. This might seem normal, but the results were rather surprising. While trying to shoot a Luna Snowâs character, the user found different damage results even after placing the crosshair in the same place.
Some might say this has been an issue only with Moon Knight, but surprisingly, that wasnât the case. Several other users have complained about this, explaining their poor experience with Heroes like Peni Parker, Punisher, and Hela.
The hitbox in Marvel Rivals doesnât feel symmetrical at all. NetEaseâs creation doesnât use cylindrical and spherical hitboxes, unlike most Hero Shooters. Unreal Engine usually offers a better solution through equating geometry. However, that doesnât seem to be the case for this game.
Can NetEase really solve the hitbox problem in Marvel Rivals?

Honestly, thereâs nothing much NetEase can do to solve the hitbox issue. Letâs not forget that Marvel Rivals is a third-person F2P shooter, which NetEase thought out of the box. Also, the over-the-shoulder camera is surely not a common thing in this genre. As a result, the camera on which weâre aiming doesnât fall exactly behind the character model.
So, it seems like weâre shooting wherever the crosshair is. However, thatâs not the case. We always shoot slightly on the right side of the crosshair, leading to an asymmetrical hitbox during games. So, players will hit the bullseye if they aim slightly to the left or right side of any opponent character to avoid this issue and land a proper hit.
With high mobility characters, such as Spider-Man, Venom, and Black Panther, the hitboxes shouldnât create much chaos for us. While Support players are already struggling against Hela and Hawkeye being a threat to them, NetEase shouldnât really think about tweaking things, as most characters canât even one-shot Heroes, apart from their Ultimates.
What are your thoughts on this issue? Should NetEase tweak the current hitbox mechanism in-game? Let us know in the comments.
