A Berserk reference featured in a spray included in Sue Storm’s Malice skin bundle in Marvel Rivals is making fans of the manga series lose it.

Itās not unknown that the developers at NetEase are very in tune with the community when it comes toĀ Marvel Rivals, and they donāt shy away from slipping in references from Marvel movies and comics, sometimes even going out of their way to reference non-Marvel media.
Such is the case with a small new detail discovered by theĀ Marvel RivalsĀ community that is entirely missable and wonāt make any sense if youāre not into manga.
Players have spotted that a cosmetic item included in one of Sue Stormās skin bundles is literally aĀ BerserkĀ reference, and fans of Kentaro Miuraās legendary manga series are losing their marbles over this detail.
Sue Stormās Malice skin bundle spray inĀ Marvel RivalsĀ seemingly referencesĀ Berserk

Guts isnāt a Marvel character, but that didnāt stop the developers at NetEase from quietly slipping in aĀ BerserkĀ reference inĀ Marvel Rivals. The spray featured in Sue Stormās Malice skin bundle showcases Sue Storm facing left while Malice eerily looks straight ahead from behind her, both their faces half visible.
Seems like a generic spray, right? Except it isnāt. A user by the name of TheIceboltx in theĀ Marvel RivalsĀ subreddit shared an image of Maliceās spray and another image of Griffith and Femto fromĀ Berserk, comparing them, and both images have the same composition with their characters.
Not only are they visually similar, but the images are thematically similar too. You see, Malice is the dark manifestation of Invisible Womanās personality, while Femto is a demonic transformation of Griffith.
Keep in mind, though, Sue Storm was manipulated by Psycho-Man in the comics to become Malice after she suffered a miscarriage, while Griffith went evil and transformed into Femto willingly. So thematically, theyāre similar as they both descend into darkness, but their reasoning couldnāt be farther from each other.
So the spray fromĀ Marvel RivalsĀ and the image fromĀ BerserkĀ both essentially exhibit the same aspect of the two characters, which is: two sides of the same coin or in this case, two forms of the same character.
Another similarity is their colour scheme, as both Sue and Griffith have a white colour scheme, while Malice and Femto sport darker colours, another aspect that denotes their dark transformation. Fans of the manga series are losing their mind after discovering this reference. Here are some of the best reactions from the replies:
This proves that the developers at NetEase actively engage in putting references to other media wherever they feel itās relevant, and itās honestly cool, and it just goes to show that the developers themselves like to have fun and are also cultured.
NetEase has no problems with referencing memes inĀ Marvel RivalsĀ either

While these nods to other media inĀ Marvel RivalsĀ are great, NetEase has also started referencing memes in some of their emotes. We all know Venomās twerk emote and Emmaās money throwing emote,Ā the combination of which went viralĀ after they were introduced.
In the gameās new Venomās Bubble Pop Event, NetEase has also added an emote for Jeff the Land Shark that seemingly references theĀ āTralalero TralalaāĀ brainrot meme, which isĀ hilariously cursed. Nothingās off the table for the devs, it seems.
Not just that, one of the emoji bundles included in the eventās battle pass also includes a reference to theĀ āummā¦.actuallyāĀ meme with Venom wearing nearly glasses and pointing upwards.
Maybe the developersĀ lurk in theĀ MarvelĀ RivalsĀ RedditĀ community, and thatās where they get ideas on what media to reference or what meme to add. Whatever it is, itās no problem as itās all great fun, and including them in the game will only extend its longevity and enhance the overall experience.
