Ubisoft’s Far Cry 2 might have introduced some new gameplay features. However, this one unique FPS made them completely unbelievable.
Even though one might think that Ubisoft is the current laughing stock in the gaming industry, all thanks to its horrendous releases and questionable strategies, it’s the same company that has given us genre-defining games.

One of the French publisher’s best games that has seen success across the globe is none other than Far Cry. Throughout its existence, the franchise has evolved in multiple ways and brought some revolutionary gameplay features.
However, one of the most racist games that has ever hit the shelves took one of the core features of the Far Cry 2 experience and made it ten times better.

There’s no doubt that Homefront: The Revolution is one of the biggest forgotten legends of the gaming industry. The game debuted all the way back in 2016 and was developed by Dambuster Studios. It’s an open-world FPS title that lets you run a resistance against deadly invaders. It’s a traditional war-based shooter that’s actually quite fun.
Homefront: The Revolution wasn’t free from criticism, though. Critics and fans accused the title of being racist because it portrayed North Korea as a villain. The game’s premise was North Korea’s occupation of the United States, and gamers at the launch felt this stereotype of North Korea being the aggressor wasn’t fair at all.
The game brings more refinement to the table and a buttload of gameplay features. One of those is scavenging for weapons, which, as stated by the title’s game designer in an interview with XboxAchievements, is essential to the gameplay as it lets players explore and collect weapons that can help them succeed.
The idea is that the player is going to explore the world and scavenge as much as he can, and through these scavenged items he can craft his own weapons and build his own equipment. We call it the ‘Guerrilla Toolkit’ and these are all things that the player can take to the fight against the KPA.
It’s not just scavenging for weapons; the game even emphasizes resource allocation. Since they’re quite limited in the in-game world, the weapons gamers chose affected their entire experience as they had to pick what they wanted to use and save.
It’s clear that Dambuster Studios was inspired by Ubisoft’s Far Cry 2 while developing these gameplay aspects for its FPS title. The entire concept of going out and scavenging for weapons was laid down by Far Cry 2, where gamers had to deal with weapon degradation, scarcity, and adaptability.
Ubisoft was truly ahead of the industry at the time and brought an aspect that improved realism in gamers and pushed players to think more carefully. It’s great to see that other developers took note of this feature and improved it even more.
It’s not looking good for Far Cry franchise
The next Far Cry title has been delayed till 2026 due to various reasons. (Image via Ubisoft)
Let’s be honest, 2024 was a year to forget for Ubisoft. Many of its hyped projects turned out to be a disaster in terms of player reception, which led to the company facing potential privatization and a major shakeup in leadership. The company’s next release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will ultimately decide its fate.
You might wonder why Ubisoft hasn’t tried releasing another Far Cry game, considering the hype around the franchise and how it could turn heads to Ubisoft again. Well, the studio was indeed working on Far Cry 7, but reports from Insider Gaming suggest that it’s been delayed.
The reason behind the game’s development is said to be due to “complexities in development.” Originally, the game was supposed to drop in 2025, but now it might be released in 2026 instead.
The next game in this iconic franchise will bring some massive changes. Ubisoft plans for a movement overhaul and the introduction of tactical vaulting, sliding, sprinting, and more. We’ll also see new looting systems and inventory. Let’s hope they can also improve the scavenging system as well.
