Starfield PS5 tease leaves fans seriously divided

The possibility of Starfield eventually being available on PlayStation has been discussed since its launch.

However, as of yet, Xbox has kept Bethesda’s latest title as an exclusive.

That could be subject to change in the not-too-distant future though.

During an interview with Destin Lagarie, Xbox’s Phil Spencer heavily implied that Starfield won’t stay an exclusive for long.

When asked if Starfield was “staying put for the time being”, Spencer responded, “No.”

Thankfully, he didn’t end the matter there.

He continued, “This kind of goes back to my red line answer. There’s no reason for me to put a ring fence around any game and say this game will not go to a place where it would find players, where it would have business success for us.”

Financially, this makes a lot of sense. Even more so if Xbox is shifting to being viewed as a “software company”.

Despite this, fans are uncertain whether leaving Sony unrivalled is a wise move.

“Yeah, I don’t want Xbox to shutter,” said Loki-Holmes on Reddit. “Sony needs competition so they don’t completely rake us over the coals.”

User NowLoadingReply continued this line of thinking, saying, “Have an Xbox Series X and if all Xbox games end up going to PlayStation – then what’s the point of having an Xbox?”

Obviously, this debate expands well beyond Starfield.

However, with it being a fairly new game, and having had a sequel already teased by Bethesda, it makes sense that this is the title people are most curious about. At least for now.

Not everyone is of the opinion that bringing Starfield to the PS5 is a mistake.

“I gotta say, that makes sense. If you want to maximise your game’s reach it only makes sense to take it multi-platform,” reasoned @yngking01 on X.

Everyone is drawing their lines in the sand, however, it seemingly makes little to no difference to Xbox’s plans.
