Are you ready for a whole new chapter in the Assassin’s Creed universe?

We are in the era of live-action adaptations and this time, it is a beloved Ubisoft video game series that is about to get the same treatment courtesy of Netflix.

Announced just moments ago, it has been revealed that a live-action Assassin’s Creed series has been greenlit at Netflix and will welcome Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo) as showrunners.

The report, which comes from Variety, reveals that it has been almost five years since a live-action Assassin’s Creed show was first reported.

However, it seems as though things are finally in motion with Patino and Wiener serving as showrunners, creators, and executive producers.

According to the official Ubisoft website, “the Assassin’s Creed live-action series is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions: one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, the other fighting to preserve free will.

The series follows characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”

Not only that but Margaret Boykin, executive producer and head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television had the following to say about the upcoming project.

“We are so excited to work alongside Roberto, David, and our Netflix partners to bring this beloved franchise to series.

“We look forward to delivering an experience that speaks to the heart of what fans love about Assassin’s Creed, while introducing its unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to new audiences worldwide.”

It was back in 2020 that Ubisoft and Netflix first came together to discuss plans about adapting the hit video game series into a possible live-action television show and this upcoming project will be the first to be produced as a result of that agreement.

Following this breaking news, fans soon descended upon social media with their thoughts.

“I hope it will be better than the last Assassin’s Creed movie,” one user commented.

“I hope they do it justice,” another added.

Now all that is left to do is wait and see which assassin will be heading this live-action Assassin’s Creed television show and with almost 15 mainline games to choose from, Netflix is not short of a story or two.
