Uncover what happens next:
According to a report by IGN, Assassin’s Creed franchise boss Marc-Alexis CĂ´tĂ© has departed Ubisoft after 20+ years at the company.

CĂ´tĂ©’s departure was communicated to Ubisoft employees via an internal email, which mentioned that the leadership of Vantage Studios needed to be “aligned” with the new company’s core goals.
According to IGN, CĂ´tĂ© was offered a role in the new setup but declined. Vantage Studios co-CEO Christophe Derennes expressed disappointment at CĂ´tĂ©’s decision, with Derennes saying CĂ´tĂ© had his own “expectations and priorities” about the creation of Vantage.
“Following the organisational restructuring announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis CĂ´tĂ© has chosen to pursue a new path elsewhere outside of Ubisoft,” a spokesperson told IGN. “While we are saddened to see him go, we’re confident that our talented teams will carry forward the strong foundation he helped build.”
CĂ´tĂ© joined Ubisoft in 2005 and began working on the Assassin’s Creed series as a lead level designer on Brotherhood. He then directed Assassin’s Creed 3, and worked on Black Flag, Syndicate and Odyssey in various roles.
CĂ´tĂ© has had a significant role in shaping the future of Assassin’s Creed, including the upcoming Codename Hexe. His departure comes amid recent reports that Ubisoft cancelled an upcoming entry in the series set during the post-Civil War period, which would have pitted a former Black slave protagonist against the Ku Klux Klan because of the current political climate in the United States.

Vantage Studios was created after a tumultuous period at Ubisoft following the underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws, which sparked an open revolt among Ubisoft investors and shareholders.
However, the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows seemingly bolstered the leadership at Ubisoft. The founding Guillemot Family then spun off Vantage Studios and sold 25 per cent of the new venture to Chinese gaming conglomerate Tencent.
As for the future of the series, the only upcoming title we know of is Hexe, which has yet to be officially announced. The Animus Hub, which began as Assassin’s Creed Infinity (headed by CĂ´tĂ©), is set to reconnect the modern world to the historical titles the series has been pursuing for some time.
