Shortly after the announcement of an additional delay for Assassin‘s Creed Shadows, details regarding an expansion for the game were leaked, giving potential players an idea of what’s coming to the game post-launch. Originally slated for a November 2024 release, Shadows was initially delayed to a later release date of February 14, 2025, and just recently, the game has been delayed yet again, to March 20.
As reported by Insider Gaming, details regarding the first expansion for Assassin‘s Creed Shadows were made public, apparently accidentally, on the game’s Steam page, revealing that it will be named “Claws of Awaji“, and will include around 10+ hours of gameplay. According to the page’s updated description, which has since been revised to remove any information regarding the expansion, it will be given to players who pre-purchase the game for free and will include “a new region“, “a new weapon type“, and “new skills, gear, and abilities” not included in the base game.
The First Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expansion Has Been Leaked
“Claws Of Awaji” Will be Assassin’s Creed Shadows Post-Launch Expansion

While the leak is relatively minor, and doesn’t include any footage or additional gameplay details, it does give players a small idea of what to expect from Shadows‘ post-launch content, and a small sneak peek of what the expansion will include. The name implies, for example, that Awaji Island will be the “new region“ included in the expansion, and potentially that the “new weapon type” will be some sort of claw weapon, which, according to preview materials, will not be in either protagonist’s arsenal in the base game.
Unfortunately, there’s little else to draw on in terms of speculation, other than that the approximately 10-hour length of Claw of Awaji could be the standard length of any further expansions that Shadows might receive. Notably, Shadows has previously canceled its Season Pass, alongside its planned Early Access period, so it’s currently unknown how much post-launch content is planned for the game. In all likelihood, the release of further expansions might depend on how Shadows performs at launch.
This Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expansion Leak Could Be Massive
AC Shadows’ Leaked Expansion Is Essentially Confirmed, Despite Lack Of Official Announcement

While the leak seems to have been an unintended slip-up on Ubisoft’s part, the accidental confirmation of extra, free content could encourage more players to pre-purchase the game – though probably not enough to tip the scales in any meaningful way. As seen by Shadows‘ multiple delays, the game is an essential release for Ubisoft, especially after the relatively poor performance of the studios’ 2024 releases like Star Wars Outlaws and Prince of Persia: Lost Crown.
The leak itself, an accidental update to a store page, resembles the accidental leak of a Red Dead Redemption PC port, which was mistakenly revealed on the game’s PlayStation Store page before any official announcements took place. While details technically could still change, the “official” leak of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ “Claws of Awaji” expansion means that the leaked information is about as reliable as it can get.
