Over 3 million players have dived head first into 16th century Feudal Japan since Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched earlier this month, and the game’s director has teased what’s coming next for the game in post-launch updates. Despite the game reportedly having the second-biggest launch in the franchise’s history, Assassin’s Creed Shadows had some issues upon its release, especially on PC. Ubisoft is aiming to improve the experience across the board, from small quality-of-life changes to some pretty big additions to the game.

Speaking to GamesRadar+Assassin’s Creed Shadows creative director Jonathon Dumont said there is a plan for post-launch support to address some complaints with the game, adding that the developers are “always listening and monitoring what players are doing,” to address bug fixes and implement larger changes to the game. Dumont added that while he couldn’t list all of the changes and additions planned, he said that the developers are “always working to improve the game, and hopefully, people will be able to see the difference when they’re playing Shadows in the upcoming months.

Harder Difficulty May Also Be Coming To Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ubisoft Promises More Than Just Bug Fixes

In addition to bug fixes and general improvements, Dumont has teased that a harder difficulty option is potentially on the table to be implemented in the game, saying the developers are actively considering “making even a tougher setting for difficulty for some of our players.” Assassin’s Creed Shadows currently has several difficulty options to choose from for both combat and stealth — Story, Forgiving, Normal, and Expert — and they can be individually selected for combat and stealth, so players can customize their challenge experience how they see fit.

Dumont went on to tease hardcore Shadows players who seemingly don’t find the game hard enough, asking them: “How challenging do you want it?” He added that the developers are “looking at these things and monitoring what people say about the game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is A Great Game With Room For Improvement

There Are Still Some Known Issues With The Game

Despite four different difficulty settings and being able to mix and match them to your preferred gameplay experience, some players have found that even the hardest difficulty is not challenging enough. A new update with an “ultra-hard” difficulty could definitely be the right approach to satisfy hardcore players without ostracizing the more casual players who just want to experience the Feudal Japan setting and the game’s narrative. There are several enemy types in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, so how this potential new difficulty will affect each one and other major encounters remains to be seen.

Beyond the game’s difficulty, there are some more glaring issues that will more than likely be addressed in upcoming patches, such as bugs, glitches, and even some graphical issues. Our review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows noted some particular issues with the game’s lighting, for instance. In any case, the game is due to get post-launch support in patches and a huge expansion later this year, so hopefully, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows will continue to improve, and players will get to experience Feudal Japan in the best ways possible.
