Assassin’s Creed has picked a fight against Elon Musk by replying to a criticism of the recently released Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has crossed 2 million players; however, it is still unclear whether the game could be called a hit at this point or not. One thing is sure, though: it has surpassed the launch performance of Odyssey and some other titles from the franchise.

However, Musk is not that big of a fan of the game, as he was seen criticizing it openly in reply to a post that promoted a live stream of the game by HasanTheHun. As a consequence, the reply by Assassin’s Creed’s official account targeted Musk directly.

Recently, Musk openly admitted to boosting his account in Path of Exile 2 to stay among the top ranks in the game without putting in much effort himself. This attitude was criticized by the gaming community at large, but Musk had shown little remorse over it.
However, much like most things, even this took a back seat in the months following the first time it came to surface, and people forgot about it. HasanTheHun shared a post on X promoting Assassin’s Creed Shadows, on which Musk called him a sell-out for promoting this game.
Just like that, Assassin’s Creed’s official account directly targeted his Path of Exile 2 controversy, and it came back to the front seat. Though this might not affect Shadows’ sales as much, it was still a little uncalled for.
You can tell a lot about Ubisoft @Ubisoft with how much money they are throwing at terrorist-platforming streamers. pic.twitter.com/WyDpRyo631

“Sell-out” would be more accurate.
Objectively, he is promoting a terrible game just for the money.

Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?

Lol. They are trying to take on @elonmusk ? That isn’t going to end well.😆😂🤣

Musk has yet to respond to these comments, but it clearly shows that Ubisoft is currently quite desperate to eliminate any potential threats that might loom over its game. Ubisoft desperately needs this win.
It is still not sure whether Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a hit or not

The game did see over 2 million players, and the same was boosted on its social media handles, but it did not mention anywhere that 2 million copies of the game were sold. Assassin’s Creed Shadows outperformed Origins and Odyssey at launch but still fell behind Valhalla, which is still the franchise’s best-selling game at launch.
The game currently has a 24-hour peak of 40,339 players and a 64,825 all-time peak on SteamDB. These are not the best numbers by far, but it still does not indicate that the game has failed. Some people can debate about it not living up to Ubisoft’s expectations but cannot categorize it as a failure. However, the game failed to break into the top 20 on Steam even after having more than 80% positive reviews.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first game in the franchise to be set in feudal Japan. Ubisoft has been walking on thin ice for a while, and it needs a win desperately to survive in the long run.
