Although there isn’t traditional romance in Avowed, there is at least one character you can bond with during your journey

Avowed romance has long been a point of interest, as players tend to expect they can form relationships with their companions during RPG adventures. It seemed that Obsidian had curbed any notion of this when they previously stated you wouldn’t be able to romance your companions, as they wanted to focus on getting the game’s relationships right instead – and while they stayed true to their word that you won’t be getting up close and personal with your party members while you journey across the Living Lands, we’ve found during our time with Avowed that there is one romance you can initiate which plays out during the epilogue. If you want to find out more about this option, then this is how to set up a romance in Avowed.
Avowed romance doesn’t feature in the traditional sense, as although you can use dialogue interactions to flirt with various Avowed companions in your party, nothing more comes of it during the course of your adventure. However, it is possible to set up a romance with Kai at the end of your journey, and this is how you do it:
Always speak to Kai when in an Avowed Party Camp and be nice to him
Complete Kai’s personal quest
When you get the option, confess to Kai that you have feelings for him

Note that your character’s body type and identifier, which you chose during character creation along with your Avowed background and attributes, do not affect this Avowed romance opportunity with Kai. If you’ve followed all of the steps above, then Kai should tell you that he feels the same, and that if you still feel that way once you’ve finished your journey together then you’ll both see what happens.

You can then proceed to complete the story and, during the epilogue, an additional screen will appear confirming the romance that blossoms between Kai and the envoy. If you were looking for more then I’m afraid that’s the extent of the romance in Avowed, but at least you got a happy ending together!
