Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League did exactly as we all expected, and by that I mean it flopped.
Let me clarify, I wasn’t rooting for its downfall – quite the opposite in fact.
It’s no secret that the video game industry is somewhat struggling at the moment, and so the more success stories there are, the more stable the industry becomes and that’s of benefit to all of us.
The problem is that the writing was on the wall.
It’s hard to place your faith in a game that’s chasing a trend, in this case live-service, that’s already fallen out of favour.
That’s why it didn’t really surprise any of us when Rocksteady announced that it would be sunsetting support, with the game now only playable offline.
That means developers were rushed into premiering a half-baked conclusion to the game’s story – and I’ll be addressing spoilers ahead.
It turns out that the Justice League isn’t dead. We simply killed clones and while that might be the most disappointing cop-out ending you’ve ever heard of, it does mean that a new Arkham game remains a possibility.
Part of why Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League was so underwhelming is because it paled inc comparison to the beloved Arkham Trilogy.
How could Rocksteady go from the epic highs of Arkham Knight to this?
But with Batman now confirmed to be alive and kicking, it begs the question of whether we could see the character arise once more.
While there’s no concrete answer on this, there is some compelling evidence to suggest that will be the case.
As reported by Forbes, Warner Bros’ David Zaslav previously spoke of the studio’s under-performance, adding that they’d be banking on “profitable franchises with loyal, global fans: Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC, in particular, Batman” in the coming years.
The mention of Batman could refer to anything, including the upcoming The Batman Part II, but if Warner Bros. does want to go all-out on these franchises, another Batman video game feels like a surefire success if made as a continuation to the Arkham Trilogy.
It’s what fans yearn for after all.
“I would kill for a Batman Arkham Knight in Unreal Engine 5,” wrote Reddit user Dany_Targaryenlol.
The problem is that they don’t know whether Rocksteady still has that magic within them.
“Most of that team quit, and you wouldn’t want another one from the team that currently remains at Rocksteady,” lamented Garcia_jx.
The future remains uncertain, but I’m going to choose to stay hopeful.
