Batman Arkham fans have just learned that their beloved Bruce Wayne, long thought to be permanently dead following his demise in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, is very much still alive and kicking.

A little bit of catch-up for folks that might have somehow missed the resulting meltdown that followed this at the time, but Batman (the canonical Batman from the Arkham trilogy of games) was gunned down by Harley Quinn during the events of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Although it seemed like a pretty conclusive death, it turns out that the whole thing was an elaborate ruse and that the version of Batman killed by Harley was just a, you guessed it, clone.

Now, this isn’t technically breaking news. It was hinted at in the game itself, although never confirmed, and data miners did actually find evidence to support this pretty soon after Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League dropped.

However, we now have actual confirmation of this in the form of a 2D cutscene (which marks the end of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s story).

Over on the r/Batman subreddit, fans are relatively happy that Bruce is alive and kicking… but they’re not quite ready to forgive and forget.

“At least he’s canonically not dead now,” commented user Ok-Telephone2918, “but what a pathetic move to be like, yeah we made a s**t game with a s**t story so here’s an Uno Reverse card for ya now. Forgive us and give us your money again.”

“Are people surprised by this I thought it was obvious that was not the end, and they were going to bring the JL back at some point,” replied user AUSpartan37.

“Rocksteady definitely messed up by releasing the game in parts without completing the story, but I never thought Batman was going to stay dead.”

On the plus side, this does thankfully open up the possibility of another Batman Arkham game somewhere down the line.

That is, of course, if fans are still willing to trust Rocksteady, following the critical and commercial failure that was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
