Bridgerton season 4 will see the return of Anthony and Kate, along with Penelope, who will face new challenges with Queen Charlotte as Lady Whistledown. The series, which streams on Netflix, takes place during the Regency era in England, and follows the eight amicable siblings of the Bridgerton family attempting to find love. Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, and Nicola Coughlan are returning to their respective roles in Bridgerton season 4’s story.

During an interview with Swooon, showrunner Jess Brownell revealed that season 4 will explore how the relationship between Anthony and Kate develops as they adjust to life as parents. Meanwhile, Penelope’s relationship with Queen Charlotte will take a new turn as the Queen is now aware of her secret. Additionally, season 4 will also examine Eloise’s (Claudia Jessie) resistance to marriage, as she faces pressure from her mother, Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell), while her younger sister, Hyacinth (Florence Hunt), is eager to make her debut in society. Check out Brownell’s comments below:

We’ve got Anthony returning, Johnny Bailey, which we’re very excited about. I can reveal here for the first time today that we also have Simone Ashley returning. So, Kanthony will be together again, and we will get to be seeing more of their marital bliss and seeing their baby as well, so lots of fun.

[Penelope’s] got a new relationship with Penelope now that she knows who Whistleown is and her relationship with Lady Danbury is also right at the center of the story,

Francesca is now married off, which leaves Eloise in a position where she’s in her mother’s clutches again… She’s absolutely dreading it, whereas you have Hyacinth who… is desperate to pre-debut early, and the two of them get paired together this season for comedic results.”

What This Means For Bridgerton’s Relationships And Power Dynamics

Currently, Bridgerton season 4 does not have a definitive release date, but it is expected to arrive some time in 2026. As Bridgerton progresses into season 4, the development of established relationships will be a key aspect of the show. While Kate and Anthony’s romance has been a core plot point in past seasons, the exploration of parenthood will likely offer new challenges and opportunities for growth within their relationship.

Additionally, Brownell’s comments regarding Penelope’s public acknowledgment as Lady Whistledown suggests she will change in her interactions with others, particularly Queen Charlotte. As of Bridgerton’s season 3 finale, the Queen is now aware that Penelope is Lady Whistledown. Now, Penelope’s position could affect her role in the ton and her ability to influence the events of the series.

Furthermore, Eloise faces pressure from Lady Violet to marry. With Francesca now married to John Stirling, Eloise currently stands as the last unmarried Bridgerton daughter who is of marrying age. Her reluctance to enter the marriage market will likely create tension between her and Violet in season 4, especially as Hyacinth is now eager to start her debut.
