The complex storyline of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 showcases a rift between a faction, which hasn’t been showcased much in the game.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a deep lore despite being a fresh new arrival on shelves. With no background history on the lore, many of us have been left with questions than answers. One such scenario happens when the existence of the Writers faction in the lore comes up. Who are they? Where do they come from?
Throughout the game’s story, we encounter many instances where the Writers faction is mentioned, but there’s no hard explanation about it. Sure, the story of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is cryptic, but for folks like us who need answers rather than conclusions, it matters a lot to us. However, that’s not a big issue, as a simple DLC can fill in the blanks.

In the story of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, we encounter mysterious Verso after Gustave’s saddening death. However, later, we learn some more dramatic details, such as that Verso is technically dead and we’re living in a painted world. That’s a really complex storyline.
Verso actually belongs to the wealthy Dessendre family, which is known for creating and manipulating worlds within magical Canvases. The family consists of Verso, his mother Aline, his father Renoir, and two sisters, Clea and Alicia.
However, certain doom from the Writers came to divide the whole family. During a house fire caused by the Writers, Verso lost his life to save Alicia. The death of her son deeply hurt his mother, leading to the creation of a fake world where Verso still lives and is immortal.
Okay, but who are the Writers in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and why did they try to kill the Dessendre family? There’s obviously some sort of rivalry involved, which we haven’t touched yet. The developers are trying to work on a DLC, and this could silence our curiosity.
There’s no concrete plan regarding the creation of DLC, so don’t get your hopes up already. But again, judging from the success and the missing links in the story, we might get a DLC sooner or later. The Writer storyline could be the main plot, and it could give us an insight into the pre-fracture storyline.
Is the battle between writers and artists merely an autobiography of game development?

The story of a shattered world in Expedition 33 is sad indeed, and none of us can deny that. Some of us might look into the lore way too deeply, while the answers can be quite simple. The gameplay of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 showcases a beautifully painted world, which seems more complex with the in-game lore.
Let’s lean back and relax to see a bigger picture, shall we? The idea of the Writer and Artist faction may be a story of the game development. Sounds like some wild theory, but it will all make sense soon. Don’t worry, it won’t ruin the lore; rather enrich it.
When creating Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the story designers (Writers) killed Verso and maimed Alicia to create a new world. The art designers (Painters) at Sandfall Interactive were bound to follow the written story and create the world in which we lived.
That’s some Alan Wake-level story writing, but they always make sense in video games. But still, this possibility doesn’t negate the idea of Writer-focused DLC for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Maybe it could lead up to a bigger plot for future games, who knows?
