Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s “Great Serpent” Will Take You Out With a Literal Bang

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has many optional bosses, however, Serpenphare is one of the trickest to come by during the journey.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has many great bosses, but none quite compare to the explosiveness of Serpenphare. It not only damages players with its regular attacks, but also steals their AP to build up its explosive prowess. This makes the opponent quite formidable and scary to approach.

But again, like every other enemy in the game, it can be defeated. However, you’ll need a proper strategy to do so. If you have been approaching the boss without any planning, you might find it really difficult, especially if you are underlevelled. Fret not, you won’t need rocket science to defeat the boss. Moreover, it’s easier if you have a plan.

Defeating Serpenphare is difficult but not impossible

Serphane is an optional boss in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, so you can skip to pursue the main story. However, do keep in mind, it provides a lot of good loot. You’ll get four different items: Energy Master Picto (a must if you are looking for one-shot builds), Perfect Chroma Catalyst, Grandiose Chroma Catalyst, and Recoat. Additionally, you’ll get a total of 2,250,000 experience points.

So if you choose to fight Serpenphare in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, take skills and weapons with the Lightning element as focus. The best character to use against this fight is Lune, as she has many Lightning-based skills.

The boss is weak to the Lightning element, which damages it critically and drains its health quite swiftly. You can deal with other types of damage as well if you wish. However, do avoid Fire and Ice elementals as it is resistant to that, and the damage will be quite disappointing.

Also, don’t be scared of its explosion when it consumes a lot of APs, as it can be dodged or parried. Keep a close eye on the lighthouse atop its head, which flashes eight times. The last four flashes happen really fast, so be alert once the first four flashes are over. Additionally, it also stuns the boss after exploding. So you can use Stun Boost Lumina to increase your damage even further.

Now, the main problem with Serpenphare is its ability to take away AP from characters at the start of its turn. So, how can you use skills then? Well, you can use your brainpower to use good Luminas! Simply said, use AP recovery Luminas like Energising Turn or Energising Attack. Moreover, the boss will keep getting a bunch of Shields, so having Maelle with the Barrier Breaker weapon and Stendhall ability is a great way to end this fight quickly.

However, if you’re good with parry and dodges in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, do make sure to use Luminas. With Luminas like Energising Parry, Energising Jump, and Dodger, you’ll gain a lot of AP while avoiding the attacks of Serpenphare.

Please note, perfect dodges are not as useful as parries. If you’re well-versed with every move it makes, then don’t be afraid to parry it, as you can deal a lot of damage. Also, don’t be disheartened if you die too many times, it’s part of the process. You can return to the boss later on by leveling up, but that’s completely up to you.

If you through The Continent is huge during Act 2, you’ll come to realise it is much bigger than it seems. There are a lot of things in the sky which wasn’t visible from the ground. Serpenphane is one of them.

You won’t come across Serpenphare during your main story, as it is an optional boss and is flying above in the clouds. Moreover, you need to explore The Continent thoroughly after receiving Esquie’s flying ability, which happens after Act 2. That one game mechanic unlocks a lot of new content alongside optional bosses.

To find Serpenphane, fly above the White Sands on the eastern part of The Continent. You’ll find the boss flying above it. If you clash with it while exploring, you’ll get into the boss fight. The roads were tough, but you’ll find the skies are tougher.
