Devil May Cry is among the finest modern franchises from Capcom. While the series has yet to receive a new entry after 2019’s fifth mainline release, it remains one of the best examples of the modern character action genre.

However, the first game was arguably the most important to the IP. It was ahead of its time in 2001, inspiring franchises like God of War that hoped to produce similarly fluid and satisfying combat systems.

Despite its undeniable excellence, the game has aged a lot in two decades. However, director Hideki Kamiya is ready to work on a remake of this game.

Why it matters: Capcom has already seen massive success with remakes like Resident Evil 4, so the possibility of similar treatment for this action game series is not too far-fetched.

Following his departure from Platinum Games, Hideki Kamiya has begun to delve deeper into his thoughts and game development journey on YouTube while answering questions from his viewers.

When asked about a potential Devil May Cry remake, he described that the idea sounds appealing. However, the director is also interested in working on various other franchises, including Okami and Bayonetta.

He acknowledged that many of these games have already received remasters and HD ports, but Hideki Kamiya still finds reason to work on remakes. The director also hinted that he would introduce gameplay changes to a potential Devil May Cry remake.

The director seems to be looking for a remake that overhauls the game from scratch, making it look like a modern-day release through gorgeous visuals and complex gameplay mechanics.

The franchise is currently handheld by Capcom and Hideaki Itsuno’s team. This director is currently working on Dragon’s Dogma 2, the publisher’s first $70 AAA RPG, so more Devil May Cry games are not expected for a few more years.
