There’s somewhat of a yearning for chaos when I load up Dark Souls.
There are days when I seek the simplicity of something like Astro Bot, jumping and gliding my way to victory.
There are others when it’s teaming up with my go-to squad on Fortnite that satiates my appetite.
And there are some where I simply want to demonstrate my combat prowess, tearing through – or attempting to – formidable bosses, one after another.
That’s what a franchise like Dark Souls is for.
Certainly, there’s an element of “What have I done?” when you come face to face with Ornstein or Smough, but there’s tons of joy to be found within the cutthroat chaos.
I’m imagining that’s the kind of feeling evoked by the upcoming Steam game Dinoblade which has certainly got a tangible buzz around it.
I’m being a tad tongue-in-cheek as yes, to state the obvious, this isn’t Dark Souls 4, but Dinoblade is a new soulslike-inspired experience that matches Dark Souls’ brutality.
Here though you’ll play as, wait for it, a dinosaur carrying around a big ol’ sword.
Developed by Team Spino, Dinoblade remains a work in progress with no release date yet set.
Despite that, it has already garnered immense buzz after animations and videos posted by developer Jean Nguyen to Twitter went viral.
In fact, Nguyen originally animated the sword-wielding dino simply in a bid to add the clip to his demo reel but after the footage went viral, he took on the task of developing the idea into a full-fledged game.
Dinoblade is the end result.
“Dinoblade is an action RPG game that takes place right after a major event that changed what we know about Dinosaurs. You shall set out on a journey as a young Spinosaurus that can use a Great Sword fighting against other Dinosaurs that uses weapons as well to stop an extinction,” reads the game’s synopsis.
“Oh heeeeell yeah. Been waiting for this! Congrats on making it real,” one fan wrote in response to the game’s Steam page going live.
“If childhood me saw this, he would have imploded from excitement. I’m super excited for this one,” added another.
If it’s more combat carnage you seek, this may be one to wishlist and keep an eye on.
