David Corenswet had the perfect reasoning for his Superman costume to include trunks

During an interview with Gizmodo, director James Gunn revealed that Corenswet came up with the idea of Superman’s costume including the trunks. Gunn explained that Corenswet argued in favor of including the trunks, citing Superman’s alien origins and desire to make people like him. He said:
He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler. He dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him.
Gunn’s comments make a lot of sense, especially given the more hopeful and positive take on the character.
Furthermore, the creative choice shows Corenswet’s dedication and commitment to bringing a fresh take on the iconic superhero. Therefore, fans can certainly look forward to Corenswet’s take on Clark Kent / Superman, which promises to be refreshing.
Superman is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
