DC’s Wonder Woman game was announced four years ago at The Game Awards, promising the iconic character’s first major solo game. Led by the team behind Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, Wonder Woman promised a single-player experience incorporating the Nemesis system and Batman Arkham-like combat.

However, the team failed to share anything substantial about the project to date. It was recently said that the game was stuck in development hell, and the latest scoop states that Warner Bros has now axed the project completely.

Why it matters: Warner Bros’ superhero titles are currently struggling to impress audiences. Both Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad have been unable to meet expectations, but Wonder Woman could have changed things for the better.

 

As Jason Schreier reports, the game has just been cancelled. The worst part about this report is the fact that Warner Bros is shutting down Monolith Productions.

For context, the team celebrated its 30th anniversary recently. It was also famous for incredible gameplay mechanics like the patented Nemesis system, which has yet to be replicated to this day.

James Gunn recently confirmed that he met NetherRealm and Rocksteady to discuss future games. Because Warner Bros still owns the Nemesis system patent, this mechanic could show up in future titles, albeit without the leadership of Monolith Productions. Since Jason Schreir’s track record is practically flawless, the cancellation is all but confirmed. The report also states Player First Games and WB San Diego have been shut down.

More details on this cancellation are expected in the coming days. Perhaps Warner Bros. made the decision because Monolith Productions was unable to reach a satisfactory vision for the title.
