Elon Musk vs Asmongold. Is the tech billionaire really a pro at Path or Exile 2 or are the Twitch streamer’s accusations true?
Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and self-proclaimed gamer is in the middle of another controversy. This time it’s not about politics but his supposed skill in the recently released Path of Exile 2. Recently, he claimed to have reached Level 97 in the game, and no one believes it.

Renowned Twitch streamer Asmongold issued a bold challenge, promising to stream daily on X (formerly Twitter) for an entire year if Musk can prove he legitimately leveled up his Path of Exile 2 character to Level 97. It’s a great opportunity for Musk to win a bet if he’s really legit.

Elon Musk’s interest in video games is no secret. The billionaire’s passion for gaming has been a big part of his online persona. However, some of his supposed feats are questionable. In 2024, Musk’s supposed global top-20 rank in Diablo 4 was questioned heavily by people online. Gamers questioned how he managed the time-intensive grind required to reach such a level while running multiple companies.
How does Elon Musk who is running all the top organizations in the world, still makes time to tweet, do podcasts, and rallies have time for video games? The math is not making sense lol

Path of Exile 2 was recently released in December 2024 and is an action RPG known for its grueling grind and punishing hardcore mode. It’s one of those modes where a single death permanently deletes a character. Musk claims to have achieved high ranks with multiple characters, including the now-infamous “Percy_Verence,” which hit level 97 on the leaderboard.
In a January 7 livestream, Musk showcased gameplay from his hardcore character, “Percy_Verence.” While his account ranked impressively on the leaderboard, his gameplay lacked the polish expected from an experienced player. He overlooked valuable in-game currency, struggled with inventory management, and misunderstood basic mechanics such as mana usage.
It’s kinda weird people are hating on Asmon for this
I know there are a lot of people that love Elon
But that doesn’t mean you have to agree with everything he does
It’s kinda weird you’d choose to lie about your experience level in a game if you’re Elon
But that’s besides… https://t.co/xrepZo045x

The Path of Exile 2 community has not been kind to Musk. Reddit threads and YouTube comments from knowledgeable players have dissected his gameplay, pointing to numerous inconsistencies. Observers noted that Musk’s gear—considered top-tier—would require hundreds of hours to obtain, yet his on-stream performance reflected minimal experience.

Asmongold, a renowned Twitch streamer and vocal commentator on gaming culture, has accused Musk of using a boosted account. During his own stream, Asmongold declared, “If Elon Musk can prove that he played this account to Level 97, I will stream on X every day for a year.” He criticized Musk’s alleged need to exaggerate achievements.

The controversy is also part of the bigger movement questioning Musk’s authenticity as a gamer. In 2024, Musk claimed to be among the top 20 players globally in Diablo IV, but this ranking was based on a narrow metric from an unofficial leaderboard. His Path of Exile 2 achievements are similarly suspicious, with many players pointing to evidence suggesting account sharing or boosting.
Asmongold has framed the debate as a matter of authenticity, arguing that Musk would earn more respect by being honest about his gaming journey. It’s an “ego thing.” At the time of writing, Musk has not responded to Asmongold’s challenge. It’d be an easy advertisement for X as a streaming platform if he won.
