Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 3 is already in development, but it’s going to be a huge bust if it takes a pointless risk.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 was released on September 9, 2024, and instantly became one of the best co-op games players could get their hands on. Its success wasn’t surprising, considering the fact that it brought players a unique mix of chaos and fun that’s rare to see in the current gaming landscape.

The game was an incredible success for developer Saber Interactive, and it’s already confirmed that Space Marine 3 is in development. While it’s still a mystery where the successor could head, the real fans of the franchise know that if Saber canonizes everything on the table, it’s going to be a massive disaster.

While chatting with IGN, Saber Interactive’s Tim Willits opened up about the success of Space Marine 2. The game has set new standards for the franchise and the studio itself, and the development team never even dreamt of this.
What’s interesting is that Willits stated that Saber is ready to tackle the next entry in the franchise. Well, guess what? Space Marine 3 is now no more a fleeting wish, but an impending reality as it has already been confirmed to be in development.
The community is excited to witness Space Marine 3. Considering the lengths Saber went to craft its biggest hit, it proves that the studio is committed to its project. However, one Warhammer 40k fan knows that if the next game canonizes everything, it might prove to be a disaster.
Warhammer 40k is a universe that has a load of books and other mediums attached to it. There are tons of wars and events happening at the same time, and if you’re not familiar with this world, it’s quite easy to get overwhelmed.
If Space Marine 3 tries to adapt multiple other stories and connect them with its current timeline, it could lead to continuity constraints, as we can see with the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now.
Saber’s third entry in the franchise can only be a blockbuster hit if the developer keeps everything contained and focuses on a single plotline. There’s no need to drop multiple things left and right and connect with the entirety of the Warhammer 40k universe.
When will Space Marine 3 hit the shelves?

While the news of SM3 heading into its development phase is exhilarating and all, it’s bound to be a long wait for the fans who are eager to see it hit the shelves. Keep in mind that it’s just been mere months since the release of Space Marine 2, and Saber is now just starting out on the upcoming installment.
The developers still have a number of DLCs and content additions planned for its current offering. We’ve already seen a few of them drop, and more updates should be heading our way in 2025.
Considering Saber’s current progress, it’s fair to say that Space Marine 3 won’t hit the shelves before 2028, at least. Although we certainly hope they prove us wrong and release it much sooner.
However, there’s a chance Saber could speed up things and hire more leads because Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40k show is on the horizon, which would generate quite some buzz for the franchise and lead players to its games as well.
With that said, would you like to see anything in particular for Space Marine 3? Let us know in the comments below. Until then, may the Emperor be with you!
