Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 developers have included various easter eggs that only true explorers can discover. There are some meme references here and there, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. One of them seems like a Bleach reference, as the game has similar-looking weapons from the Japanese anime/manga.

However, players have to progress the game a bit to gain access to them, to be precise, until Act 2. Additionally, the weapons are pretty strong, just like in the anime. If you want to feel formidable like Ichigo and Rukia, and are a fan of Bleach, these weapons are a must-have.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a near-perfect reference to Bleach

If you have been paying attention to details in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you’ll find many cool references. If you’re a fan of pop culture, you can even find Shrek’s porta-potty and “This is fine” meme in the game. So it isn’t surprising if more pop culture references pop out of nowhere.

However, not every easter egg is based on hit franchises, some are just there as a token of love. For instance, you can find the dev team picture at the Manor Gate in Gestral Village. Additionally, the character Monoco is named after Sandfall Interactive’s office dog. Cool little detail, right?

Coming back to the topic at hand, one user named TheastRanga from Reddit showcased a Bleach reference in COE33. Developers are probably big fans of the anime as well, as Ichigo’s Zanpakto, Zangetsu, is there for Verso. There is also Rukia’s Sode no Shirayuki for Maelle. But of course, these weapons aren’t named the same in Expedition 33 due to copyright issues.

Still, this is a fun easter egg that is actually useful, instead of being a gag. The weapon for Verso is called Confuso, which is inspired by Ichigo’s oversized sword. For Maelle, the sword is called Melarum, which looks exactly like Rukia’s Katana. Sadly, Melarum doesn’t have an ice affinity…

Once fans found out about the Bleach reference, many got excited and ready to acquire it. Who wouldn’t, if they are a fan of both franchises? Some fans have taken the chance to make a Bankai joke, as it’s a Bleach reference. All these references are making gamers interested in purchasing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, if they haven’t already.

These easter eggs are not a product of collaboration, but rather a tribute to their inspirations. For instance, the story progression for the game is heavily inspired by the book, La Horde du Contrevent, written by Alain Damasio. There might be more references, but it’s hard to find, since it’s a huge game.

Where can players find these weapons based on Bleach?

Both these weapons can be found after finishing Act 1 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which introduces Verso as a playable character. Moreover, a major plot twist happens during this time. Players who wish to use this article as a reference to get these Bleach-inspired weapons, please know there will be spoilers ahead.

Confuso is available to Verso only, as Gustave won’t be a playable character after Act 1. The weapon can be found in the Visages at the Joyful Vale section. However, players may have to defeat a Contorsionniste to get the oversized weapons in their hands. Good things don’t come for free, friends.

Getting Melarum is tougher as players need to beat Renior during a boss fight at Old Lumiere. So, this weapon is unmissable, unlike Confuso. But again, the stakes are higher as Renior is one of the hardest bosses. Fans have to go through a test by fire to get an iconic weapon like that.
