Episode 5 saw multiple long-awaited confrontations and offered some significant reveals. Travis Fimmel plays Desmond Hart in Dune: Prophecy’s cast and his identity has been a source of mystery throughout the season. Episode 5 finally reveals where he comes from. Keiran Atreides was finally exposed as a traitor by Constantine Corrino, the emperor’s bastard son. Meanwhile, on Wallach IX, Sister Lila has returned to consciousness after the events of episode 2, but she’s in a rather confusing state.
Desmond Hart’s Parentage In Dune: Prophecy Explained
Desmond Hart Is The Son Of Orry Atreides & Tula Harkonnen
Dune: Prophecy episode 1 revealed that Desmond Hart was a warrior who survived multiple tours on Arrakis, with his most recent trip there ending with a near-death experience at the hands of a sandworm. Despite being swallowed up, Hart somehow returned from the tour alive with mysterious powers, begging questions about his genetic background. Dune: Prophecy episode 4 saw Valya retrieve a sample of his blood from the climactic confrontation at the assembly, and it was finally delivered to Tula at the end of episode 5.
Tula uses the Sisterhood’s secret banned Thinking Machine technology to examine Hart’s DNA, which reveals that he’s from the bloodlines of House Atreides and House Harkonnen. The news is shocking to Tula until she sees an image of a baby, which she recognizes. It’s heavily implied that Desmond Hart is the son of Tula Harkonnen and Orry Atreides, the man she betrayed and killed in episode 3’s flashbacks. She then chose the Sisterhood over raising the baby and carelessly gave him away to be raised in a horrible, dangerous environment, leading to Desmond’s hatred for the Sisterhood.
How Constantine Learns Of Keiran Atreides’ Betrayal
Sister Francesca Tells Constantine To Protect Ynez
Image via MaxKeiran Atreides has been a conflicted character throughout Dune: Prophecy season 1, as his love interest in Princess Ynez has interfered with his mission with the rebellion. Despite most of the rebellion’s members on Selusa Secundus being wiped out, Keiran tries to return to the Imperial Palace to resume his duties as Swordmaster. However, as Mikaela tells him, it’s impossible for him to turn into the man he was pretending to be. Constantine Corrino, the emperor’s bastard son, realizes that he’s a traitor and arrests him.
Importantly, Valya Harkonnen learned of Keiran Atreides’ role in the rebellion in episode 2, and she brings Sister Francesca to Selusa Secundus to help her regain the emperor’s faith in the Sisterhood. Francesca is Constantine’s mother, and she reminds him of his purpose in life: to protect Ynez. She explains that he may even need to protect his sister from those who claim to love her, hinting that Keiran is bad news. Earlier in the episode, he witnessed Keiran’s outburst after being told that Desmond Hart was going in search of rebels to kill, and Constantine connects the dots.
How Sister Raquella Returns Through Lila
Raquella Is Lila’s Ancestor
Image via MaxIn Dune: Prophecy episode 2, Sister Lila underwent a process using the Rossak drug, with Tula Harkonnen’s intent being to access Lila’s genetic memory. Lila’s ancestors include Mother Superior Raquella, who passed away in episode 1’s flashbacks, making room for Valya to become the new Mother Superior, as well as Dorotea, the woman Valya used the Voice on to kill. The procedure went wrong, and Lila had a near-death experience. However, Tula has since tried to rejuvenate her using the Spice Melange.
Sister Lila woke at the end of episode 4 in a dazed state, and her eyes glowing blue due to the spice injected into her. It seems like the effects of the Rossak drug are still prevalent, though, as she now takes the form of her ancestors at random. Episode 5 saw Raquella return through Lila, providing Tula with the wisdom she wanted from the old Mother Superior. Since Lila isn’t in control of these forms, Dorotea could just as easily appear in the season finale to carry out revenge.
What Happened With Sister Kasha?
Sister Kasha Had A New Version Of The Omnius Plague
Image via MaxSister Kasha was the Truthsayer of Emperor Javicco Corrino who died at the end of Dune: Prophecy episode 1, and episode 5 saw Raquella beginning to study her brain. Raquella recognizes a virus in Kasha’s brain that resembles the Omnius Plague, a weaponized disease utilized by the Thinking Machines during the Butlerian Jihad. The previous Omnius Plague took shape in the liver, while this version triggers in the portion of the brain that activates feelings such as fear. The virus seems to have spread around their Sisterhood, causing their nightmares.
During the Butlerian Jihad, Raquella was the one to realize that Spice Melange could be used to slow or cure the Omnius Plague.
Emperor Corrino’s Relationship With Sister Francesca Explained
Francesca Is Constantine Corrino’s Mother
Image via MaxEmperor Javicco Corrino is married to Empress Natalya, a woman who helped him unite the Imperium through her house’s political strength. As she explains, however, the rise of the Sisterhood has damaged his trust in Natalya, as he eventually became infatuated with Sister Francesca. With her, he had Constantine, who the Sisterhood planned with the intention of protecting Princess Ynez, whom they intended to see placed on the throne, under their control.
Francesca is still aligned with Valya and the Sisterhood, so her relationship with Javicco is primarily focused on re-gaining his trust.
In episode 5’s ending, Javicco rekindles his romance with Francesca after Constantine plays a role in capturing the traitor, Keiran Atreides. For the first time, Javicco is proud of his bastard son, seeing him take the initiative to defend their house from a threat who had breached their walls and their trust. Francesca is still aligned with Valya and the Sisterhood, so her relationship with Javicco is primarily focused on re-gaining his trust.
