The beginning of a new year is almost upon us. Could it be a year full of prosperous PlayStation Plus offerings?
Well, that awaits to be seen but it shouldn’t be too long before we get an idea of what’s in store.
January’s PlayStation Plus essential tier line-up is expected to be revealed on 1 January, so let’s hope we don’t begin the year on the wrong foot.
The announced titles will then land one week after that, which is also when the current line-up – It Takes Two, Aliens: Dark Descent, and TemTem – will disappear.
As for what’s in store next month, we can actually look to Reddit for some clues.
Each month, the r/PlayStation Plus subreddit hosts a ‘Prediction Tournament’ which you’d be wrong to pass off as wishful guessing.
How often are first-party releases dropped? How often does Sony team-up with a particular third-party publisher?
These are all questions asked that factor into the predictions made, so while it’s not a definitive look at what’s coming, there may be some truth lurking in this month’s predictions.
While there are plenty of titles thrown about, it’s three in particular that seem to feature in the most guesses: Resident Evil Village, Atomic Heart, and South Park Snow Day.
Resident Evil Village feels inevitable given that almost all other Resi titles have surfaced on the subscription service at one point in time.
The game is pretty inexpensive now too, retailing for £13.99 on the PlayStation Store, which is no real surprise as it is now approaching four years old in spring 2025.
This could be the perfect time to inject new life into the game by bringing in fresh players.
As for Atomic Heart, that is currently available as a premium tier trial but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it land on extra or essential.
It didn’t exactly do all that well at launch and such releases often find a second wind of success on subscription services.
The same goes for South Park Snow Day which proved neither popular with critics or players.
Striking a deal to land it on PlayStation Plus could be the best next move.
Of course, not everyone agrees with these three titles. Plenty of others were mentioned, including the likes of Pacific Drive, Lords of the Fallen, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Naturally, you should take these predictions with a pinch of salt until the line-up is confirmed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if any of these titles featured.
