Although the official setting for Fallout 5 has not yet been confirmed, a recent discovery reveals that the Bethesda RPG may just leave the confines of the United States for the first time.
Much like Bethesdaâs fellow RPG The Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 5 remains an enigma with barely any information on its development provided to fans.
We know that it is in development at Bethesda and we know that the success of its live-action television show Fallout has introduced even more fans to the franchise.
However, with no official updates from developers, we are at a stalemate which has led fans to begin working on their own theories.
One such theory revolves around the potential setting for Fallout 5.
So far, the Fallout series has taken us to the wastelands of Washington DC, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Mexico.
However, a recent discovery found in 1998âs Fallout 2 may just hint at some potential locations for Fallout 5.
The map was pointed out by Some-Web-1628 over on r/Fallout.
It was discovered in an oil rig and features a map with various red points of interest dotted around the entire world from Central America, South America, Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, and beyond.
âI think one of the dots is on West Virginia and Washington so I think these are Enclave bases,â the user shared.
âSome might be pre-war, others post-war. Like they flew over there and made them.
They might be enemy bases or factions but I donât think so, plus it would be super cool if the Enclave had bases around the globe so they could never really be taken out but what do yâall think?â
The Enclave is a secretive faction throughout the Fallout games, serving mostly as the antagonists of the franchise.
With potential bases set up all across the globe, could this mean that Fallout 5 could take place outside of the United States?
âI find it interesting that they have bases in Japan and Australia – great locations for potential spinoffs – and also in what looks to be Vietnam, practically on China’s doorstep,â user Amig186Â shared.
âI wonder if the ones in Australia are still active or if the giant spiders ate them all.â
With many fans wondering what a potential Fallout game would look like set in a whole different location, it is worth noting that Bethesdaâs Todd Howard thinks differently.
Unfortunately, Howard has previously stated that Fallout will never be set outside of America.
âMy view is part of the Fallout schtick is on the Americana naivete and part of that.
And so, for us right now, itâs okay to acknowledge some of those other areas but our plans are to predominately keep it in the US,â said Howard on the Kinda Funny Games podcast.
