Fallout fans are worried that the Amazon show might be making a big change to the lore of the best faction in New Vegas – the Elvis-worshipping Kings.

There are a lot of reasons why most consider Fallout: New Vegas to be the best game in the series, but one of the biggest is that it has far and away the best factions. From The Legion to the NCR, New Vegas is packed with interesting characters and groups, but the standout has to be the iconic Kings.

For those that don’t know, the Kings are basically a bunch of Elvis-worshippers who stumbled across an Elvis impersonation school after the Great War and assumed that “the King” was some kind of deity to devote their lives to. They’re a small faction compared to the big boys of New Vegas, but they still left a big enough impression to be taking the spotlight in season two of Amazon’s Fallout.

Fallout Fans Think Amazon Might Be Making A Big Lore Change To The Kings

It’s A Little Too Early To Tell, Though

We’ve known that the Kings are going to appear in season two of Fallout for some time now, but we just got our best look at them in a new poster that shows The Ghoul surrounded by a bunch of ghoulified Kings. In New Vegas, the Kings were entirely human, but everything we’ve seen of them in the show suggests the group is purely made up of Ghouls.

This is already a big change to the lore, and it’s one that has some fans worried. Over on Twitter, BraxtonJs responded to the poster by saying they hope that the Kings being ghouls doesn’t imply that they were around before the war, as that suggests they’re just big Elvis fans who know who he is, ruining the joke of them assuming he’s a deity.

Although this is a fair conclusion to come to since we’ve only seen ghoulified Kings so far, it’s a little too early to tell if that’s what the show is going for. Ghoulification can be a very quick process after all, and Twitter user The_Cultist_ suggests the Legion could be punishing the Kings for worshipping a man from the past by turning them into Ghouls purposefully, which wouldn’t ruin the whole joke.

This take also assumes that Ghouls only happened pre-war, which we know isn’t the case.

Fans have replied to the worries with a lot of interesting theories about why the Kings are suddenly Ghouls, from their control of the water source in Freeside leading to their transformation to them learning about Elvis’ addictions and copying that behaviour with radiated drugs. It’s very open right now, but we’ll hopefully learn the truth when season two drops.
