4A Games, the studio behind the Metro franchise, has rebranded as Reburn, announcing La Quimera to be the studio’s first game in this new chapter.

Perhaps best described as Fallout meets Killzone, La Quimera looks truly stunning.

Its announcement trailer features a hefty amount of gameplay, which is something I always like to see, and it’s gameplay that looks exceptionally polished.

Reburn described the game as a “story-driven FPS” set within a dystopian Latin America.

“In a fractured world where microstates rely on mercenary forces, you are an operative caught in a web of lies and deception,” reads the synopsis.

“Play alone or with up to two friends geared with futuristic weapons, exoskeletons and combat abilities.”

See? I wasn’t over-egging it. This is one of the most impressive announcement trailers I’ve seen in quite some time; Reburn really appears to have cooked with this one.

The world and narrative of La Quimera have been created by Nicolas Winding Refn, who you may know as the writer behind the films Drive and The Neon Demon, and E.J.A Warren.

It’ll combine Latin American folklore with dystopian futurism, creating an incredibly unique tropical backdrop.

“Reburn is proud to introduce La Quimera, which draws upon our success crafting narrative-driven shooter games for the Metro series,” said Dmytro Lymar, founder and CEO of Reburn in a press release.

“We look forward to sharing this mysterious new world with players and hope they revel in suiting up to join the fight.”

Players will seemingly be able to customise their exoskeletons, crafting a weapons line-up that suits a variety of individual playstyles, although details remain a tad thin on the ground.

There’s no single enemy with players fighting a variety of human factions, each with their own preferred tactical plays, as well as advanced military robotic foes.

The only downside to La Quimera is that it appears to be PC only for now, with the game available to wishlist via Steam.

Of course, Metro welcomed console releases so I’m hopeful that we could see this change further down the line.

La Quimera remains without a release date.
