Fan-favorite DC Superhero Who Hasn’t Had a Solo Game in 34 Years is Rocksteady’s Ticket Out of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

It’s high time Rocksteady should summon the fastest man alive to forget the nightmares of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been a total failure for both Warner Bros. and developer Rocksteady, to put it simply. Although it was a live service game, it had very little support when it first came out, received negative reviews, had almost no goodwill, and nearly all of its updates were criticized after they were released.

This game not only cost Rocksteady financially but also demolished the goodwill of the popular development company which it built by gifting us some of the best Batman games in the Arkham universe. However, if Rocksteady wants to regain its lost glory, then there is one superhero who can do the honors.

Rocksteady should make a solo game on The Flash to come out of the debris of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Rocksteady refined games set in the DC universe with back-to-back hits of Batman: Arkham game. Starting from 2009 to 2016, there have been a total of seven PC and console games that were absolute blockbusters. After that came Batman: Arkham VR which never did justice to the iconic franchise. Then came Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which marked the biggest downfall for the company. Another Batman: Arkham game was also released in 2024, but as it was a VR title, it never achieved the benchmark set by the previous titles by Rocksteady.

Now, it’s time for Rocksteady and DC Games to bring back the forgotten hero, The Flash. It’s been 34 years since this DC superhero got his solo game. In 1991, The Flash was released on Master System and Game Boy. Since this third-person 2D side scroller, there hasn’t been any solo game on The Flash. The main objective of the 1991 title was to find a switch and get to the exit within the stipulated time limit. Now, it’s time for Rocksteady to find that switch with The Flash.

After the recent DC Comics titles, Warner Bros. Games is definitely in need of a new hit, and the fastest man alive still has time to save them. The time has come for The Flash to get the game he has always deserved, the concepts are there, and the technology has improved. With DC’s speedster being central to the game’s plot, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the closest thing fans have seen to a The Flash game in recent memory.

Not only this will pull Rocksteady and DC Games out of the turmoil, but will also give tough competition to Marvel Games as well. In the era of Batman: Arkham, Marvel Games was nothing in front of DC Games. However, with the simultaneous fall of the Batman: Arkham series and the rise of Marvel’s Spider-Man, the table turned everyone’s head overnight.

Now, a solo game on The Flash would be a proper answer to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, with modern and fast movement mechanics that would suit today’s gaming demands. Just like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s flashy and acrobatic styles, a solo game The Flash should include his fast movements as well. Also, it will be great if Rocksteady adds a multiplayer mode into it with different playable DC characters, which might heal the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League wound to an extent.

Efforts were put to make a solo game on The Flash

Another triple-A game was subtly in development before Batman: Arkham Asylum revolutionized contemporary superhero video games and The Flash established itself as a mainstay of the comic book series. The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, a joint venture between Warner Bros., BottleRocket Entertainment, and Brash Entertainment, started development with big plans.

Notable talent like comic book writer Marv Wolfman was brought on board for the project, which at times resembled a Hollywood production more than a standard video game. There were even rumors that Ryan Reynolds, who would later star in Deadpool & Wolverine, was being considered for the lead role of Wally West. Leaks of concept art, early builds, and other behind-the-scenes materials have surfaced, suggesting what could have been a revolutionary superhero experience, despite the fact that The Flash game was never released.

Before closing in 2009, BottleRocket Entertainment had its own creative problems with a reboot of the horror game Splatterhouse. The groundbreaking Rocksteady Studios would release the Batman: Arkham series soon after BottleRocket’s closure, delivering the iconic DC experience on contemporary consoles and setting the new benchmark for superhero games, even though The Flash project never made it to the end.
