Maybe Fallout players shouldn’t be puzzled by the latest Fallout 5 announcement, yet they are all the same.
Ever since the resurgence in interest in Fallout due to the success of Amazon’s TV series, more questions about Fallout 5 have been asked.
While gamers understand that a follow-up to Fallout 4 will take time, few had anticipated Bethesda would foresee development taking several years.
And we’re not talking just a couple – it could be a decades long wait.
Redditor YouAreNotMeLiar shared the Game Infinitus article that kicked started the r/gamingnews discussion.
Since Game Infinitus wrote its article, the tweets referenced have been removed.
Even so, while some of the original source material isn’t there, the confusion of this growing trend for games to take decades to make remains.
“I know games are more expensive and definitely take longer to make, but waiting 10+ years for a sequel when most AAA gaming companies are taking in billions of dollars is extremely silly,” responded iMisstheKaiser10.
User QTGavira said, “I dont really understand why Bethesda doesn’t outsource more […] We’re already nine years out from Fallout 4 […] They cant even claim ‘Can’t match Bethesda quality’ anymore, they can’t even match their own quality at this point.”
Some fans, however, have come to the defence of the publisher.
As explained by TJ_McWeaksauce, “Nowadays, a AAA game that’s developed and released in five years is considered pretty darn good. If an open-world game is released in five years, then that borders on a miracle.”
Gamers may not like having to wait, especially when they can see the other options seemingly being ignored, but long development times aren’t new.
In fact, moving forward, they seem to be the new industry standard AAA titles are following.
Then there’s the matter of The Elder Scrolls VI, another title which Bethesda is working on that demands time, and is arguably the priority right now rather than Fallout 5.
With so many irons in the fire, waiting for the next product is an inevitability we can’t avoid, sadly.
