With one of the most talked-about RPG debuts in recent memory, Sandfall Interactive isn’t looking to slow down. In a recent interview with GamesIndustry, producer François Meurisse confirmed that a new game is definitely in the pipeline, though the studio is tight-lipped on the details.

The only hints so far? There are exciting ideas brewing, and creative director Guillaume Broche is already sketching the blueprint for their next adventure. While fans are hoping for another emotionally rich experience, Sandfall isn’t rushing the reveal.

We’ll start from a more efficient position than when we started the company five years ago. […] But I can say that we have – and Guillaume in particular has – great ideas for the next game.

However, development on the new title should be quicker this time around. With the success of Expedition 33, the studio has grown its team and learned invaluable lessons from its debut project.

Meurisse hinted that they’re now starting from a far more “efficient position” than when they first formed the studio, though he also acknowledged that expectations are much higher now. Whatever they’re cooking, one thing’s clear: the world is watching, and hopes are high.

So why all the buzz about Sandfall’s next move? The answer lies in the unforgettable impact of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This wasn’t just a solid debut, it was a masterclass in how to mix emotional storytelling, stylish turn-based combat, and evocative art direction into something truly special.

The game’s narrative, steeped in loss and wonder about what to do next, struck a chord with players, turning heads and stealing hearts with every haunting note and meaningful moment.

What started as a passion project evolved into a global phenomenon, selling millions of copies across various platforms and smashing the studio’s internal expectations. For a first title, that’s more than impressive, it’s groundbreaking.

The game’s success has not only validated the studio’s vision but also positioned them as one of the most exciting new names in the RPG scene. It’s no wonder fans are so eager to see what comes next. If Expedition 33 was the prologue, Sandfall’s next chapter might just be legendary.
