According to game director Hugo Martin’s interview with Edge Magazine, the sequel will feature some of the largest spaces with a sandbox design to the levels. In addition, they won’t take too long to finish as the director has developed them to culminate in about an hour, calling it a sweet spot.

Doom The Dark Ages will also break its levels into acts with a dungeon-crawler feel to them. Martin also explained that the upcoming FPS title is inspired by the Batman Year One comics which took the character back to his roots. Moreover, Doom The Dark Ages will also be the first title in the series that puts emphasis on the story, with the director saying that it won’t be in the text notes like previous titles and will actually be at the forefront this time around.
