Gamers Pick Final Fantasy 10 and Red Dead Redemption 2 as the ‘Saddest’ Games Ever – Can You Handle These Emotional Rollercoasters? Tell Us Your Story in the Comments

Tidus is taunting the camera through the Blitzball water. In most cases, video games end on a triumphant note, or, as we like to call it, a “happy ending.” Even horror games aren’t immune to light at the end of the tunnel.

However, for certain video games, that just simply isn’t the case. Things end bleakly, and you may have had your heart broken along the way. Heck, even something as cheerful as Pokémon isn’t immune to a sad episode. Taking to Reddit, one user wanted to know one thing: What’s the saddest video game you ever played? If you’ve played through these games, you may start crying at the thought of revisiting things.

I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying

Right from the get-go, one user wrote, “Red Dead Redemption 2 will make any grown man cry.” They’re not wrong, either. Few things are as sad as seeing Arthur Morgan slowly fade into death, and even using some of his final words to tell Dutch, “I gave you all I had.”

Another user pointed to Final Fantasy 10, writing, “Final Fantasy 10 gets real sad, real fast.” That led another user to comment, “The ending is actually really tragic. Like I knew that would happen, but it still hit me.”

Indeed, the sequence of events and reveals in Final Fantasy 10 hit so hard one after another that nailing one down is pretty difficult. Simply put, the whole game is a sad experience.

Elsewhere, another user mentioned Spec Ops: The Line, which might have one of the biggest twists in video game history on top of also being sad. It’s too bad the game is delisted.

Of course, no thread would be complete without making mention of Telltale’s The Walking Dead series. It’s a series so sad it had users debating which part of it is the saddest. “Did you find Season One or Two sadder?” a user wrote.

Personally, I want to give a shoutout to Final Fantasy 15. Learning at the very end the importance of the photo mode and stopping to take pictures on the journey still makes me tear up. It literally takes the name “Final Fantasy” to a whole new level.
