GTA 6 isn't the only new GTA we're getting, brace yourselves

Besides GTA VI, there’s another new GTA release coming soon, and it’s good news for any Vice City fans.

The original GTA 3D trilogy remains one of the most iconic game trilogies of all time.

Consisting of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, these games pioneered the early days of open-world games and would inspire plenty more that came after them.

These games have stood the test of time, to the point where dedicated fans are now porting them to other systems.

Back in 2024, a team led by modder Stefanos Kornilios Mitsis Poiitidis (SKMP) ported GTA III to the SEGA Dreamcast.

It was no easy feat, and the results were so impressive that it caught the eyes of Rockstar veteran Obbe Vermeij.

“At the time, we did think it was technically possible to pull it off on the DC and these guys are actually doing it. Nice one,” Vermeij reacted to footage of GTA III running on Dreamcast.

Now, it appears SKMP and the rest of the team are setting their sights on bringing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to the Dreamcast (thanks, Time Extension).

As the video below shows, the development is still very early. There are heaps of visual bugs and no sound present. A video released a day later showed the game running a little more stable.

Considering how radically different the Dreamcast’s hardware is compared to the PS2 or Xbox, getting this running at all is a massive achievement.

With a bit of additional time, SKMP’s team should be able to get it running flawlessly the same way they did with the GTA III port.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was originally released in 2002 for the PS2 off the back of GTA III‘s popularity, and it later came to Xbox and PC in 2003. It quickly became one of the most iconic games of that generation of consoles.
