Get Ready to Scream: Steam’s New Free Download Promises to Terrify You Like Never Before – Dare to Try It? Tell Us Your Reaction in the Comments

Steam new free download is guaranteed to terrify you

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, bringing with it hundreds of demos to keep you busy.

It’s something I’m a big fan of as I usually always come away from Steam Next Fest with several games I’d never previously heard of suddenly sitting pretty high up on my most-hyped list.

Given that participating costs you nothing, it’s a great way to get a feel for what’s coming up in PC gaming.

That being said, it can be overwhelming knowing which demos to download.

Well, I’m here to help with a recommendation for those of you that enjoy horror.

Solarsuit Games’ Static Dread is an upcoming lovecraftian horror set within a lighthouse that looks positively terrifying.

“In the aftermath of a global cataclysm, the harbour authorities reactivated an ancient lighthouse, hoping to keep the seas navigable amidst the growing chaos,” the synopsis reads.

“A lone keeper is dispatched to the forsaken island, tasked with manning the beacon. The fate of passing vessels and the nearby town now rests in his hands. Far away, a wife and daughter wait for his return.”

Of course, you won’t be alone at the lighthouse as mariners phone in reports of nightmarish creatures.

“Will the keeper preserve his sanity, protect those he loves, and guide the vessels entrusted to him through the abyss? Or will he, too, be lost to the dark tides gathering beneath the surface of the world?” the synopsis asks.

This is more of a narrative horror, so don’t expect to go in guns blazing.

Static Dread does tease several endings though, so that’s a nice replay incentive.

During Steam Next Fest, you can give the game’s demo a whirl ahead of its full release.

Unfortunately, Static Dread remains without a release date for now, but we’ll be keeping an eye on its progress.

As for the demo, there’s no word on if it’ll stick around after Next Fest concludes on 3 March so if you fancy trying it out, I’d do so sooner rather than later, to be on the safe side.
