After months of worrying, it seems that a controversial feature that had Hogwarts Legacy fans concerned is being ditched.

The fate of Hogwarts Legacy has felt somewhat uncertain in recent months. Despite being one of the best selling titles of 2023, plans for a sequel have not gone smoothly.

Undoubtedly, Warner Bros. Games intends to keep this franchise going; after all, it was a huge money maker.

That said, live service elements have been teased, a potential addition that many Harry Potter fans believe would ruin the game.

As you’ll recall, an online petition against this very feature was created by fans to demonstrate their displeasure.

While the petition may have come to Warner Bros. Games’ attention, it was the failing of one of its games that seemingly made the publisher realise that live service isn’t the answer.

That game is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Few can deny how much of a failure this release was, with the majority of feedback about the title heavily criticising it.

Although there were multiple issues dogging its launch, live service was a major sticking point for many gamers.

Why is this relevant, and more importantly, what does it have to do with Hogwarts Legacy 2?

It’s been revealed that David Haddad, Warner Bros. Games entertainment CEO, is leaving.

Given Haddad’s input in the creative process, many have assumed that he was “instrumental” to the implementation of live service elements, as suggested by ComicBook.

If this is indeed true, then Haddad’s departure will, hopefully, see such initiatives come to an end. Or so the theory goes.

Arguably, this will come as a massive relief to the Hogwarts Legacy community.

With more spells, classes, and numerous other features teased for the sequel, the news that live service may be scrapped will further increase the fandom’s excitement.

Currently, the fate of live service in connection to Hogwarts Legacy 2 is mainly conjecture.

If Haddad was behind plans to implement it, then one would hope his successor would listen to fans and scrap the idea.

But without a replacement named, we can’t know this for sure. Nor can we know if Haddad was the individual keen to make live service work.

Consequently, while this update will surely put some minds at ease, it’s important fans don’t get carried away and assume live service will never darken Hogwarts Legacy’s doors.
