Hogwarts Legacy Fans Are in for a Big 2025—Here’s What You Can Expect

Although it saw releases for different platforms arrive over the course of nearly a year, Hogwarts Legacy was first launched in February 2023, making it already almost two years old at the time of this article. The immense popularity of the wizarding world’s ARPG has left fans wanting more for quite some time but has received very few updates. Avalanche Software has made it clear that a sequel to the game is in development, which means that, hopefully, in 2025 there should be more information about what prospective students of Hogwarts can expect to see coming.

Many of the ideas discussed in this article are supposition based on very little information or rumors; Few things have been officially announced at this point.

Hogwarts Legacy received many positive reviews when it came out in 2023, and its blend of the familiar wizarding world of Harry Potter fame with detailed gameplay and deep narrative has made it one that continues to hold the attention of many of its players. In summer 2024, a large update brought a considerable amount of new content to the game, including the Felix Felicis potion recipe, a new mount and broom, photo mode, clothing items, and the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest for players who did not already have it. Looking forward, 2025 may also have good news for fans.

Avalanche Software is said to be currently working on the yet-unnamed sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, although that is about all that has been shared of the project at this point. As it is unlikely that the studio is very far along in the process, they are not expected to be showing any full trailers soon. That said, a short teaser trailer could appear within the next several months. Hopefully, that may announce the name of the new game and possibly even a general release window, even if gameplay and story content is vague or missing from the announcement.

Hogwarts Legacy 2, whatever its name may be, will seemingly be connected to the Harry Potter HBO series. If this is the case, then it is likely that the game will be released in either 2026 or 2027 alongside the HBO television show’s release.

However, this connection could present a big leap from what players are used to with the current Hogwarts Legacy. Particularly due to the difference in time periods between the books and the current game. The HBO show is said to have storylines covering the seven Harry Potter books which take place in the 1990s, whereas the events of Hogwarts Legacy happen in the late 1800s.

According to Insider Gaming, a Definitive Edition of Hogwarts Legacy is currently in development and will add 10 to 15 hours worth of content to the original game. These rumors have yet to be substantiated by developers, but if correct, it will add a new story quest, side quests, activities, and outfits to the game. Though this has not been confirmed, Insider Gaming does have a decent reputation for leaks, and given the success of Hogwarts Legacy, it is certainly possible that developers would want to expand on that.

This Definitive Edition is said to also be sold as a separate DLC for players who already own Hogwarts Legacy, and will not be a free update to the game. No price or release window is known, although it is guessed to be around $20 to $30. With the sequel to the game possibly arriving in 2026 or 2027, this would put the Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition in a good place to release during 2025.

Ever since the early days of Hogwarts Legacy‘s original launch, developers have expressed that there would not be any DLC or expansions to the game. However, the large update that the game received in June 2024, and the possibility of new content in the Definitive Edition both speak to the contrary. If the rumors of the Definitive Edition are correct, that would be a substantial DLC. It is unlikely that Quidditch will ever make its way into the game, but there are plenty of other avenues that developers could take the story to provide more quests and content.

Other than the possibility of a Definitive Edition, there is a low probability of DLC for the game, particularly while the sequel is under development. Unless there was something added that could bridge the gap in the two games, the Definitive Edition is the best bet players have for new ways to enjoy Hogwarts Legacy.
