Hogwarts Legacy was, as we’re all aware, 2023’s best-selling new release.
And yet tumbleweed drifts across the proverbial landscape when I broach the topic of post-launch content.
You see, Avalanche Software did a good job of ironing out in-game bugs, rolling out plenty of patches.
What the studio hasn’t particularly done though is create new content to retain Hogwarts Legacy’s players’ interest.
This summer, around 18 months on from launch, the aptly-titled ‘Summer Update’ was unveiled much to the delight of players.
But that delight quickly soured.
Those expecting a new locale to explore, or the expansion of in-game mini games – including the likes of ‘Crossed Wands’ and ‘Summoner’s Court’ – became swiftly disappointed.
Yes, the free update provided access to the Haunted Hogsmeade DLC (a prior PlayStation exclusive) but in terms of truly new content, it simply added a selection of cosmetics and a Photo Mode.
Fair to say, no one was all that excited.
This disappointment is mirrored when it comes to the game’s only paid DLC, The Dark Arts Pack – something players are deeming to be vastly “overpriced”.
If paid DLC launched offering to take players to Diagon Alley or the Ministry of Magic, I feel confident in saying that players would jump at the chance to purchase it.
The Dark Arts Pack though … you may be best steering clear of this one.
Originally launching alongside the game, The Dark Arts Pack mainly grants purchasers access to more cosmetics.
There’s the ‘Thestral Mount’, ‘Dark Arts Cosmetic Set’, with the main draw being the ‘Dark Arts Battle Arena’ but I use the phrase ‘main draw’ lightly.
You can battle evil foes across the game’s map so unless you’re desperate to take on a certain number within a confined space, there’s not much on offer here.
The pricey pack retails for a whopping £17.99. Yes, you heard me correctly – which is something that Reddit user Bubblebubbleitsme has slammed as “ridiculously overpriced”, warning others against it as we enter the holiday season.
“The pricing is insane, for a few cosmetic items and one gameplay thing,” added Destiny-chan.
“For what comes with it? Absolutely overpriced,” agreed Track_Long.
