Earlier today, we got our first look at the upcoming Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster, thanks to a truly spectacular goof from developer Virtuos, which accidentally left access to a folder full of screenshots open for fans to find. Those screenshots have now been shared far and wide, and we finally have an idea as to what exactly this game will look like.

We only have a few screenshots to go off, but they’re enough to get a good picture. We have the iconic opening shot of the ruins outside the sewers, a shot of an Oblivion gate, some towns, a goblin attack, and some house interiors. Like I said, not much, but it appears to be enough for some people to declare that they really don’t like the look of this Oblivion remaster.

Oblivion Fans Are Split On Whether The Remaster Looks Better Or Worse

One of the more vocal fans was Micky D on Twitter, who told Bethesda to “stop making Oblivion brown” and to go work on The Elder Scrolls 6. In a follow-up tweet, they explain that the “lack of color” in these screenshots is making them skeptical of the entire game, and it looks like a fairly common complaint.

Another Twitter user called Minna thinks that the remaster “looks so much worse”, complaining about how little greenery there is in these screenshots compared to the original. Another user called CapCorgi says that Bethesda has now given Oblivion a “p*** filter”, in reference to all of those weird-looking games from the late 00’s that loved to give everything a yellow tinge.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long before we get to play the game and judge the new visuals for ourselves. According to various insiders, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been planned as a shadow drop for quite some time, with the latest rumors suggesting it could arrive as early as next week. That was said last week, and the week before that though, so maybe don’t get your hopes too high.
