It’s Official: Assassin’s Creed Shadows Just Pulled Off the Biggest Launch in AC History – Here’s Why! 🎮⚔️🔥

Naoe with a sword in front of AC Shadows protagonists After releasing on Thursday, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has officially had the best launch of any Assassin’s Creed game, surpassing previous records held by Origins and Odyssey. With its focus on Japan – a long-requested setting for the franchise – and dual protagonists, hype surrounding the game was high ahead of launch, perhaps contributing to the record-breaking player count.

In a post on X, the official Assassin’s Creed account shared the news that AC Shadows had hit 2 million players in just two days. This means the game has now bypassed the player counts at launch from previous best-selling titles, AC Origins and AC Odyssey. The account also showed its gratitude toward fans, stating “Thank you for joining the journey in Feudal Japan!

A New Record For The Long-Running Series

We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone,” the post on X reads, before revealing AC Shadows has surpassed the launches of previous Assassin’s Creed games. The post on X makes a point of saying AC Shadows has 2 million players, but hasn’t clarified on sales. In terms of actual player counts, that makes it the best launch ever for an Assassin’s Creed game.

However, it’s unknown at this time if it’s the best-selling AC game at launch, since sales figures weren’t disclosed. However, AC Shadows‘ player count on Steam beat Valhalla‘s on day one, surpassed Origins‘ on day two, and is only a few thousand players behind Odyssey‘s all-time high of just over 61,000. So, things are looking pretty promising for the latest installment in the franchise.

Our Take: AC Shadows Seems Likely To Break Previous Games’ Other Records

Shadows May Be The Best-Selling Assassin’s Creed Game Ever

Given everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ launch, its current Steam player counts, and the information provided by the official X account, it seems likely that AC Shadows will break the sales and player count records of previous games. Right now, it’s a little under 3,000 of breaking Odyssey‘s all-time high player count on Steam. It’s highly likely Shadows can surpass this, given that it’s only been out two days and is only beginning its launch weekend, arguably the time when most people will be playing it.

Considering a day-one patch is already live and fans are already adding mods to parts of AC Shadows, the popularity is likely to grow. 2 million players at launch is a great milestone to hit, and it seems increasingly likely Assassin’s Creed Shadows will outsell other games in the franchise while breaking the last few records held by Odyssey.
