The reviews for the new Disney Snow White live-action movie are in and it has been deemed worse than the biggest live-action failure in history.

The era of live-action adaptations is here, and while a lot of projects are seeing major success, there are some that are getting absolutely demolished at the box office, deeming them failures. One such project that has been criticized a lot by fans recently is Disney’s Snow White, the American musical fantasy film featuring Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler.

Snow White is based on the 19th-century German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm and has multiple animated renditions that have been a global success. Thus, when the live-action project was announced, it grabbed the attention of a lot of Disney fans, who were hoping to relive the fantastical adventure of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

However, the movie got such bad reviews that it even broke the record of arguably the worst live-action adaptation in history, Dragonball Evolution, based on Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball. The reviews and ratings of Snow White on IMDb are much worse than Dragonball Evolution, and Dragon Ball fans are in awe because of it.

There has been a tradition for quite some time that involves converting animated programs and novels into live-action films and series. However, this trend has been followed by a curse (especially for Japanese anime and manga) that has resulted in the failure of practically every live-action work. The same curse has followed Snow White and has resulted in its failure.

Snow White was released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on March 21, 2025, and had a great cast backing it. However, the movie failed to live up to the expectations of fans who were particularly excited, considering the hype around almost every Disney animated work. And while it managed to have a pretty nice opening, things got worse when the reviews came in, and the movie got a rating on IMDb.

When the movie was first released, it had a rating of 2.2/10 and as the days went by, it went further down and is currently at 1.7/10. It is one of the worst-rated movies as of now, even following below Justin Chatwin’s Dragonball Evolution, which is deemed by many as the worst live-action adaptation in history, tarnishing the legacy of Akira Toriyama.

Anime fans can’t believe that there is a live-action project worse than Dragonball Evolution

Dragonball Evolution was one of the main reasons why the live-action projects were already considered failures before their release, and the movie is partially responsible for establishing the live-action curse. Thus, for a grand Disney movie like Snow White to get even worse reviews than Dragonball Evolution is quite shocking and startling.

These emotions were expressed by fans on Reddit when they found out about the difference in IMDb ratings of Dragonball Evolutions and Snow White.

While some Dragon Ball fans pointed out their experience of watching Dragonball Evolution for the first time, others just criticized Snow White for not being able to live up to their expectations.

It is safe to assume that Snow White has been added to the list of failed live-action projects despite being one of the biggest ones. But the movie still has a chance to save face as it has only been a few days since the movie was released, and maybe it can grab the attention of Disney fans and somehow make it work.
