Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar made headlines for one of his biggest career performances at the 2025 Super Bowl. Now, most people expected that Kendrick Lamar dissed Drake through his rap, because like every other time he might be getting paid for it. But in reality, Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance became the final nail in the coffin for his feud with the Canadian rapper, since truth be told, the 37-year-old rapper received no compensation for his concert. So apparently, Lamar dissed Drake for free.

Super Bowl 2025 paid no penny for Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance

The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the biggest music stages in the world. It’s a dream for many artists to perform there. And Kendrick Lamar got that opportunity during this year’s NFL championship halftime show. Appearing with his longtime collaborator and R&B star SZA, Lamar simply put the stage on fire with his performance.

And quite obviously, people assumed that the Grammy winner might be getting a hefty paycheck for his service. Considering the amount Kendrick Lamar usually charges, fans believed that the rapper must be making millions from the show. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Because in reality, Lamar received no compensation for his concert.

According to reports from The Independent, Super Bowl halftime show performers typically don’t get paid. Instead, the NFL covers production costs, including travel costs for the artists. Further, a representative for the NFL confirmed that the football league covered “all costs associated with the show” and even paid “the halftime performers’ union scale” for Kendrick Lamar’s crew.

So it seems that for an artist of Kendrick Lamar’s caliber, money isn’t always the main motivation. He in fact didn’t make a single penny from the show, and yet entertained a huge number of viewers with his performance. Not to mention, the rapper stole all the attention, when he took another shot at Drake during his halftime performance.

Taking to the stage for an electrifying show, Kendrick Lamar threw in a diss that once again accused the Canadian rapper of inappropriate behavior. Much like his previous rap battle against Drake, Lamar once again called the rapper a p*dophile. But what made this diss even more shocking, is the fact that Lamar did it on the biggest stage in the world, without getting paid.

Rap feuds usually happen through music albums and social media, where artists make money from streams, views, and album sales. But considering how Kendrick Lamar took shots at Drake during the Super Bowl without any financial gain, it seems to have sent a message through the internet—it was the final nail in the coffin for their feud and Lamar seems to have won it again.
